All my equipment.... GONE.

So.....

I'm back! I've missed all you guys! I hope I can continue to contribute to the forum for good this time. Personal issues had barred me before.

I moved to Australia for a temporary permanent almost 3 months ago (my wife's American Military, don't ask) and everything was wonderful.

Then our stuff got here. Or should I say my wife and our daughters' stuff got here. I had an entire crate filled with most of my clothes, brand new mountain bike (Specialized Stumpjumper... 3800$ just in the bike!) My tube mics, studio computer, interface, headphones, my Yamaha monitors, 2 IPods, all of my wiring and gear, 3 acoustic guitars, 2 brand new electrics, 2 new VOX amps, 2 computer monitors, my wifes computer mouse, just the mouse from a wireless keyboard & mouse set (go figure) and lord knows what else was in it.

GONE.

Not only is the 'Crate missing', but the movers who packed it all have no record of that create existing. Which leaves me to believe that it never left the country. Or even hit the dock! But given that my signature is on the last page of the packing order, and the upstairs, IE all these things, were packed after it was signed, I have no way to fight against it.

Even with serial numbers, receipts, etc, neither my renters insurance nor the moving company will do anything for me. Because it was never logged. And I'm in another country.

#&$% ME RUNNING!

Mourn with me. :'(

I have not found any recourse as of yet, but it's been just over 2 weeks. The moving company says the crate may show up on another boat, blah blah blah.

I have my insurance through an extremely awesome company, but they will not cover our losses given the amount they would have to pay compared to what we've payed into them. And they claim it's all not really lost yet.

But given that the crate was never recorded leaving our American home, never reached the boat, and never reached Aussie shores, presumably on all points there's no records indicating otherwise, as the moving company logs all big ticket items on a separate chart.

At this point, I'm chalking it up to a good day for some bad movers.

Insurance can do that?!?!!?!? I don't care if I've been paying for coverage for 2 months or 20 years. Reimbursement for the unexpected is what insurance IS, am I wrong? I could understand an individual making out a little ahead of the insurance company 1 out of 100 times...but every business has its risks. Apparently insurance is one of those "special" businesses that get to make the rules. What about the moving company's insurance?

This is probably me speaking ignorance due to lack of life experience but yeesh...I can't believe that's even legal.

Sounds like you had a lot of really nice things...I'm accumulating some too and the more I do the more I fear for them. A big part of me is starting to wonder whether I own these things or if they own my ability to live comfortably. I've been considering consolidating everything to a mobile recording interface and manually dragging tracks over to my PC for mixing. That way I can sleep over it.

One of my room mates just had some kind of spiritual revelation and sold everything except for his bed, a desk, and a few essentials like personal hygiene products to avoid the hassles in owning "things". Says he's never been happier...maybe you'll come to appreciate your freedom from awesome toys. Granted, if someone stole his '74 J-Bass or his Ampeg V4 he would probably rethink his asceticism.

Look at it this way Quincysan...you've been selling a guy insurance...he moves to another country, and tells you the moving company (who is likely bonded and insured, a reputable company) lost a crate full of very expensive gear...they talk to the movers, and the movers have no record of ever packing or moving such a crate...that does kind of smell of fraud to me.

For the record,I am not saying it IS fraud, just saying from their standpoint I can see where they wouldn't just write out a checkon the spot.

OMG, that is fricking horrible.... You had that badass Neuman (sp?) too.

I can't begin to imagine how craptastic that is and hope that it shows up later.

Wow.

Dude that sucks a big one! Sounds like some kind of scam to me. These movers aren't Italian are they? (I've been reading up a lot on La Cosa Nostra lately)

If it does not turn up in awhile, maybe we can do a roundup of "stuff I don't use anymore" so we can get you a few of the basics needed to record. I liked your stuff when you were posting it and am really bummed for you, I don't know what I would if I lost all mine (besides cry alot).

you left from the US right? I'd at least have a friend check the local pawn shops and possibly file a police statement with the serial numbers.

...and keep an eye on ebay

PHEW!!!!!!!

Dematrix, aka Deon, aka the artist formerly known as AKA.

You, sir, should have hunches more often!

Not only was the shipping company at fault for "misplacing" the crate, but they delivered it to another family here in town.

The new owners of my nice crate o awesomeness were great about it all. He unloaded a couple boxes, found my computer, which had my name, address, and phone number in a file on the desktop. He said he fired it up, surfed some illegal pages, downloaded the NSA mainframe, and then called me to return the computer!! (Of course, NSA skimmer guys, I'm joking about that!)

Anywho, I got my stuff finally!! Some small casualties, though.

One of my guitars has a nice dent in the back, from what I can only describe as, 'crane operator negligence,' and my bike has a bent top tube. So here we go with warranty. Or maybe I'll try the insurance company again.

You know, it's funny, I never thought that they might consider it fraud. Messed up to think they would though.

Then again, they've prolly had similar crap in the past.

Either way, at least its all accounted for!!

HOORAYYYYYY!!!

Ya know, gut instinct told me this would work itself out eventually.

My stump jumper had a wicked dent on the top bar too, never affected the riding, but then, I bought it that way, and sold it that way.

Good luck with the insurance claim.

Glad to hear most of it came back unscathed, may the Great Architect continue to bless you.

I have to say, I do feel blessed. Moving here has been a hardship on us financially, especially since we moved here to save money and have dug ourselves into debt simply with moving expenditures.

Edited upon request- TY C.O.C.

Nose stick where it isn't welcome again.

But thank you all for rooting for me! I honestly feel you all made stars align!

One could look at that as a two steps forward, three steps back situation...sometimes the best steps in life require an investment beforehand.

I hope it works out well for you.

DB, can I contact you personally? Cpt. Tripps as well.

Honestly, Deeb's, that's one way of looking at it. But when you get here and realize the shortfall of it all, we're actually going to be more broke in 3 years when we leave then if we never left at all. By at least a 5 figure margin.

Zek- before we moved I backed up, formatted, and re-installed my windows drives for a fresh Aussie start. Overdue anyway, considering the fam had been using my computer for so long.

Thank you everyone, again, for your well wishes.
