Behringer 1622FX

Hi, I'm really new to this mixer business, and I really need help. I've been trying to get the FX processor to work and I have done pretty much everything I could do to get my voice to sound processed with effects (such as echo or ambience). I've been testing out the mixer with every setting and every time I speak through the microphone, I hear just my normal voice through my headphones, without effects. What can I do to get this working?!

Welcome to HRC.

Let me axe ya this...have you ever used an auxiliary effects loop of any sort before? It works the same way, the send and return pots both need to be turned up to appropriate levels...

Failing that, I'd have to give the good ol' RTM answer I guess.

This may be a dumb question, but have you tired the buttons?

I used to have an older version of this board and it baffled me for so long how to get the effects to work.

Then one day I discovered that the buttons mattered more than the knobs. There may even be one on the back to allow effects into the signal, as my old one had.

Just a thought. Otherwise, I'm with Deeb'z. RTM if the basic features don't work.

Uh, at least one more time . . .

The manual in this case is not very clear--the same manual covers four mixers. I have the 2442FX--I'm assuming it's similar, though I haven't checked out the 1622 closely. I did look at a magnified picture of the 1622, though, and it's similar to mine. Here's what I do: In this case, plug the mic into channel 1. There is a dedicated AUX send control in the strip (in your case AUX 2). After setting trim levels for the channel, turn this to 12 o'clock. You are now sending the mic signal to the FX bus. Select the FX you want using the controller, turn AUX SENDS 2 (directly under the FX read-out screen) to 12 o'clock. Set Stereo AUX RETURN 2 to 12 o'clock. The MAIN MIX button (the one that STEREO AUX RETURNS 2's little arrow points to) should be up, unless you want to send the FX affected mic to sub 1-2. Depress this button if that is the case. For now, though, leave it up, for simplicity's sake (!) (Make sure, also for now, that Channel 1's MAIN submix button is down.)
Go to the MAIN section and depress the MAIN MIX button. It's right above the word "SOURCE". At this point, make sure the CD/TAPE TO MAIN button is UP, not down. Put on the phones, but first make sure the PHONES/CTRL ROOM knob is all the way down. Talk into the mic, and slowly turn up the PHONES/CTRL ROOM knob. You should be able to hear the effect on your voice. Control the amount you want (of the effect) via the AUX SENDS 2 knob.
Let me (us) know if this works. Again, if you don't know about a lot of this stuff in advance, along with the fact that the manual isn't very helpful, this can be frustrating. Very frustrating . . . .

Hmmm . . . make sure channel 1's slider is at 0, and that the input is not clipping (the little red light should not come on, or only very briefly. If it comes on, turn the trim knob down a hair. I know this is very explicit, but you said you're new to this, and I'm just being thorough.

Wow thanks! That is really helpful. Yeah, I got working ONCE a long time ago, but I forgot how I got there and the manual is really vague. I'm new to this recording stuff so yeah.. thank you so much for the help!

I think it means, "Read the Manual." But as you and I know, the manual can be tough to figure out. This wasn't always the case with Behringer, though. And, TRIM and GAIN are the same thing.

Alright, it works! The only thing is that I can only hear the effects when I record it, but when I put the headphones on, all I hear is my raw, unprocessed voice. Is there anything else that can be done? If that's it, it's fine, thank you!
