Recording keyboards into the UX2 via Line in (Quality?)

When I record keyboards via line-in, the quality I hear during playback is quite poor.

Opening the Driver Console Settings under the "Mixer" part of POD Farm, I see that the driver operates at "44100 Hz; 16 bit." So I tried to change it by first accessing the Sound Control Panel.

I've tried changing the recording settings in the Digital Audio Interface Properties, under the "Advanced" tab for the UX2.

1. I tried changing the default recording format from "2 channel, 16 bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality)" to "2 channel, 24 bit 44100 Hz (Studio Quality)," and clicked "Apply," but...

2. A window pops up, saying "The device is being used by another program (POD Farm, I assume?) ... Do you want to continue?" I click "Yes," and...

3. Another window pops up, saying that the format is not supported by the device.

I don't get how the UX2 doesn't support this "2 channel, 24 bit 44100 Hz" when one of its supposed key features is that its sample rate conversions are 16 and 24 bit at 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz.

I'm really hoping for a solution to this. I'm mainly a keyboardist and I want the best sound out of recording it from the UX2. Help, anyone?

If you're using ASIO interface driver, then the config for ASIO settings are in the ASIO control panel, not in the device control panel.

If you're using WDM drivers, then the UX2 control panel would control the settings.

So, maybe the ASIO control panel is the place to go, instead of UX2 CP.

I know my ESP1010 has it's own ASIO control panel, that lives down in the system tray.

Alternatively, you could try the WDM drivers, instead of ASIO, if you are. Normally they are quite close in latency, so it may work better for your needs, and give you a better sound.

In my experiences, the LINE IN sound is exactly as the keyboard is putting out, so there's got to be something gumming up the works.

Are you in your DAW or POD farm to do this? It sounds like either you're running the keyboard threw some of the effects, or something is gumming up the signal between your keyboard and the UX2. Try every input on the UX2. Since its a line level signal, you should plug it into the line inputs on the back (I think...)

You should be able to get the exact quality of the sounds on the keyboard in the UX2 while recording. Just have to get a few small things configured correctly (:

Oh! I think I'm using ASIO. How do I find my way to the ASIO control panel, though? :))

-yes, my keyboard sounds been quite muddled up, frankly-

I think I've figured out how to use the WDM, but I can't hear any playback right after recording. I'm using Reaper, and the input and output are set to the UX2. After I record a track, I can't hear the playback when I plug my headphones on the phones or the Analog out ports. How do I do this? :P

Uh, at least one more time . . .

I've got a UX2, and the only way to set the parameters you talked about in the first post is to close all Line6 stuff, and then access the control panel (via the Start Menu--All Programs--Line 6--Tools--Line 6 Audio and MIDI devices). Once there, I'm allowed to set things, and then hit apply, and they get applied. (Hit the "Lock Format" box, or the thing may go to default once you close--default is 16/44.1.) You have to have all Line 6 apps closed, or it won't work. At least that's the case for me. It sounds like you are at least partly having the same problem.

It works! I did as you suggested and I'm happy to hear the high quality playing back! Thanks so much! :D
