So I am part ways done tracking another song. Drums n bass are solid for the most part but Guitar L need 100% redone (bad mic position) and the clean twangs as well due to some finger flubs.

Really though, it's very close and I'd like some opinions. No vox yet but when we get done with the guitars, she has kickass vocals ready to go.

Song is called "White Lies" under the "Holly and the Fantastics" album. Not really mixed too much atm (bass heavy etc...), just looking for composition critique.

I also cleaned up the previous songs mix (Addiction) and re-uploaded.

Heya caps, here's my thought, mix aside.

Everything at the first chorus and after sounds fine, and there are enough changes that keep it interesting and moving, and it works.

Everything up to the first chorus, the groove if ya will, got kinda stale for me. I think some more variations on how you terminate each phrase would help. e.g. throw a larger variation at the end of verse to kick it into the next verse. Maybe a quick riff or a slide; something to break up the groove a bit. I think that would help keep the groove moving and interesting.

I also got a sense that you were building up to the chorus, pumping more energy into the groove. I think that could be more dramatic as well. Really build it up and then kick its balls into the chorus. :D

Also, the update on Addiction sounds great.

Right on JBot, thanks for the insight.

Where I agree to a point on some of your suggestions I think hearing her vocals will soften some of those concerns. The intro and first verse for instance do seem long at this time, I don't think that will be a problem after vox *fingers crossed*.

I like the variation/riff/slide for the end of the verses, will see what I can do. On the chorus switches, I once again think that the dynamics in her voice will help provide that kick in the balls you mention, it is quite the drastic change.

I appreciate the suggestions very much, should have the vox tracked and a better mix by tuesday night after practice. Will repost then.

Thanks

p.s. good lord, I looked to see why the floor tom was so darn boomy, it mistakenly had a +5 boost at 80 and the volume was jacked up on it too.

Yeah, same here. I'm really liking the recent music you've been coming up with Cap :) It's a hella lot more interesting than half the crap on the radio for sure.

Right on, thanks guys.

To tell the truth, this is the most fun I've ever had in a band. Communication is top notch, nobody gets their feelings hurt, and they aren't afraid to try new things.

Oh Jbot, why must you be right....?

Talked to our singer last night to see what she thought of the mp3 I sent her. The intro was too long... by a 16 count. Le Sigh.

Tracked vocals last night after practice, only got two takes before she had to go.

Still unmixed but seems less repetitive now.

Check em out, watcha think?

I really like the breakdown part of this song. Doesn't seem so repetitive with vocals, more like catchy.

Hooray, thanks guys.

Now, I have some guitars to re-track and will then take a few day break before mixing.

I will then be coming to you guys for mix suggestions.
