Is this right? I have an M-audio Fast Track Ultra 8r - www.m-audio.com/products/...ackUltra8R.html
When I plug in a 1/4" the pre amps do not engage making the knobs on the front of the unit null in void. However, if I connect using an XLR - the preamps and corresponsing knobs on the front work just fine.
Is this normal? I swear I used to use TRS connections on my old mixer and it would engage the pre-amps just fine....
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Apr 13, 2010 11:40 am That's how it's supposed to work. The TRS are *LINE* level inputs that should effectively bypass the entire preamp circuit.

Apr 13, 2010 02:37 pm Learn something new everyday....and on this site, its usually a few things. Thanks man. I suppose I have to invest in some new cables.
Apr 13, 2010 05:28 pm Keeping in mind that I'm not familiar with the FTU, you might want to make sure that the XLR inputs don't have a relay (to flip them to line level) before investing in cables (or simply XLR->TRS connectors).
It might -
It might not also. But it might.

Apr 15, 2010 01:45 pm I looked for something like that - they only thing they have is in the front -
and only affects the first 2 channels since you can plug in directly to the front as well. Oh well - thanks for the info as always. I hope to have some pics of my studio up soon - I have received good advice from a lot of folks on this board (you especially) so thank you once again.
