Podfarm VS. Line 6 Gear

Okay so this has been an ongoing problem for about a week now, I'm debating whether to sell my Behringer mixer and buy a Line 6 UX8 with Podfarm.
But since I don't record drums, i wont really need all of those inputs. But i still want pod farm with alot of fx and amp models.

Ive been looking at other line 6 gear, and there's a few processors like the POD X3 which gives you most of the same amp models as pod farm platinum, and there's the benefit of being able to hook it up to an amp for live gigging. Also, you get to download the models/effects you have on the POD X3 for free online, for use as plug ins on DAW's.

If I buy it, i can plug my guitar into it, then it into my mixer right? just like an fx pedal before it hits the mixer? If so, I wouldnt need the usb recording side of the POD X3, is there any gear without the recording part, but u still get all the models?

Also, What do you think is better, the physical version of podfarm: ie. the POD X3, or the digital podfarm?

Im pretty sure Line 6 gives u all the options on all their gear, coz even if u get the physical POD, the USB connectivity allows u to download new amp models and FX and such that u can then place into ur POD. So there r no real pros vs. cons in that respect between the hardware and software.

From wat u say u need i dont think u can lose getting a POD and u definitely dont need the UX8

Just to throw this in - I have a Pod X3 and I LOVE it. The live is pretty much the same except that it's rack mount. If you can do without the rack mount feature jsut buy an X3 - saves a lot of money.

You can go USB out to your computer to record into it or plug it into your mixer. I have it going straight into my mixer and it works great!

And yes you can get all the model packs for the X3. I haven't bought any yet but I will buy the Metal pack very soon.

I must say that I'm very content with most of the features that Pod farm has to offer.....the Line 6 Monkey is a very nice add on when trying to stay on top of new drivers, fx, etc.....the only drawback that I've noticed is that it's all a matter of the system that you link into ...(computer that is)....I recently purchased the UX2 under the impression that it was a win/win situation......not the case......while I managed to overcome the issues of latency within my recording software (cakewalk)....my laptop just so happened to be the one laptop that the Line 6 products have had problems with (and they don't know why!).....My laptop is a HP Pavillion dv4..poweful enough to run whatever needs to be ran. My solution.....went and installed it on my "old" desktop....works greet....going to try it soon with my harddisk tascam.....all in all....very pleased with Pod Farm and Line 6 ...but like anything....they just have certain quirks...

Line 6?!? I luvs me some Line-6! It's just so hard to beat the flexability that digital modeling allows... a godsend for the home-studio owner, or anyone that doesn't want to store a room full of amplifiers.

What I use from Line-6 gear is mostly amp-based, however I have had enough exposure to the POD-Xt, and other "Vetta-based-modeling-engines used for direct-injection recording", to appreciate what they've done, and put the time into getting some very usable tones out of them. I'd be (am) more inclined to go with a hardware-based unit, just for the fact of it's potential as a standalone unit.

The XTpro, and X3pro(rackmounted models) both offer reamping capeabilities, which is what I was looking for.(its something I've never done, and it sounds incredibly usefull, expecially the way we record) For a while I was bent on getting an XTpro, but found someone who had a Vetta-1 head which had its hardware, and firmware upgraded to Vetta-2 specks, allowing me to reamp via the added s/pdif in/out section, essentially giving me a 40+lb., 300w, X3 to work with. ; p I haven't yet had the chance to go through the reamping process yet, but am really looking forward to doing so. It will probably have to wait 'til after I relocating the studio, at the end of the month.

One small negative comment regarding Line-6 amps: I still need to use an analogue overdrive pedal in-front of both my Flextone, and Vetta... there's just something, just a slight bit 'off' about the attack of these amps that the overdrive fixes it quite nicely. This problem is even more prevalent in the POD-based modeling engines.(2.0, and FloorPOD+, etc...) They're still one of the finest sounding 'guitar-amp-systems' I've had the pleasure to work through, and the attack-issue is easily-enough fixed, and I don't think I'll be buying any more anps any time soon.

Zombiecow, what issue does your laptop have with the UX2? My older laptop ran it just fine as long as I disabled the wireless networking. I don't know if it will help you but I have seen that issue more than once in regards to laptops.
