I have a 2 parter for some of you guys. I've been using my Roland TD6 kit for a # of years now (i think 4 or 5) , and i has given me decent results . The reason I went to the electric kit was simple logistics at first ( i was living in a town house) and it's easy, only two channels , no micing all together less set up. I havn't used the midi function on this thing and i've severly limited my self there since with programs like BFD, EZdrummer, session drummer ect have come out where you can control each drum . I'm looking into getting one and i'm not too sure which . I have Sonar 8.5 with session drummer 2 on it and if that's better than the compitition , then i'm set . I'm open for suggestions . I'm also wondering how is the latency with these programs ( i have a M-audio profire 26/26 as my main interface) . The more options the better being that i record other bands and people than myself . I think this is the best bet until i can build my studio space next year .

Hey there Geoff, I do this quite often with my TD6 kit. Sonar Pro 8.5 has a new Session Drummer 3, and the samples included with it are pretty sweet. If memory serves SD3 allows 12 outputs, so you have quite a bit of control.

As far as EZD I'd say SD3 compares pretty well, but you have a bit more control with EZD, and it will do stuff like hats with a bit more accuracy, though with the TD6, I don't think that comes much into play, but with the fancier Roland hat's it can be quite a bit better in articulation. If you're going to buy one I'd probably go for Superior. I don't have any experience with BFD, though I didn't care for the Demo I tried, Addictive Drums I've tried the Demo and it worked fine, latency wasn't a problem and it has some good samples, and is probably inbetween EZD & Superior as far as features/samples. Superior has a pretty steep learning curve IMO and is probably the closest you're going to get to a mixing a real kit with all the control it has.

I haven't used Superior with my TD6 yet, but SD3 & EZD both work fine with minimal latency, though I know of a few who do use Superior and it works fine according to them. I usually have a send from my mixer from the TD6 outputs to monitor while I'm playing and just record the midi, that way there is zero latency.

i had a td6/ ezdrummer combo but i could never seem to get the hi hat open close to work proper, and the cymbals worked funny also like there was not the sensitivity i had when using the td6 module i eventualy sold the td6 cause the frustration trying ot get it to work,, and then also me just being a poor drummer, was much easier for me to put the drums in note for note.
