Please help me, im on a deadline for recording a local band in my little homestudio on march 12th. I currently switched to adobe audition, on my New Laptop. But it wont let me arm for recording. I run my mics and instruments through a mixer and hook it up to the computer Via DAW. But for some reason it will show a message saying the audio input isnt activated, recording isnt possible please check configuration. What do I do. How do i Fix it?

Have selected your Audio Input/Output card in the Audio Setup. If you're trying to use onboard audio and it's a recent lap top with Win Vista, you'll probably have to use ASIO4All for your driver because the new driver type WaveRT isn't supported with Audition.

I have V2 of Audition, and the Audio Setup is under the menu Edit->Audio Hardware Setup. There you can select your audio device and set the default Input/Output channel along with which driver to use. If you see a choice for ASIO or WDM your all set try both to see which works best for you. If your sound is onboard and only has WaveRT or Direct Sound for a choice your best bet is to download ASIO4All and select it as the driver.

www.asio4all.com.

What version of Audition are you using? If it's earlier than 2.0 ASIO isn't supported only WDM. In that case you have 2 options, use DirectSound or buy a decent USB Audio Interface such as the M-Audio Fast Trak, Line6 UX series, and a host of others depending on how many inputs you need & your budget.

I am using adobe audition 3.0. so the usb interface is just a Soundcard right, that u useplugged into the usb slot? and having 1 of those will eliminate latency isues and will improve recordings alot right?

an anyways the usb interface i looked up. So would you recommend going the DAW route and using computer multitracking, while using a USB interface. or going the route of using a Multitracking equipment like a (zoom H16CD multitrack recorder)??? and can u run a mixer through a usb interface, and are the drivers included?

Personally I'd go with a DAW w/Audio Interface, and yes it should pretty much eliminate any latency problems and you will get alot better quality signal.

You can use a mixer with the audio interfaces just plug the line outs of the mixer into the line in's on the interface.

Ok thats good news and having the mixer hooked to the audio interface will, allow me to use the mixer inputs for mics annd guitars, etc? and an interface will help with the sound of the recordings right?

I have done the ASI O4all download and it works great but when I click on the level controls Audition stops record and/or playback. Is there something else I need to do?

Thx for the info. Things are sure looking up. I am not near as discouraged as I was.
