Ok im just going to list the equipment im using and would like it if someone could suggest a budget way of getting another 8 mic inputs.
I'm sure my pc is more than good enough and im using protools 8 LE an mbox 2 and an alesis DM5. Is it possible or do i just need to buy a better interface?

if you want another 8 tracks to record onto separately at the same time, then yes you need a new interface, and for protools, that will not be cheap

I don't think there's an easy way. PT is specific to their hardware, so you can't add an 8 input device, unless it's Digidesign.

All the ways I think of involve spending more $$$, like 500+.

To use PTLE, one of those mix desks would be needed (002 or 003), and they're 1k+$, i think.

For cheaper devices, new software would be needed, as PTLE is proprietary, so only digidesign gear will work with it.

You could use PT M-Powered, with a delta1010lt and a mixer for preamps. That solution is maybe around 6 or 700$.

PT Mpowered : 250$
1010lt : 200$
mixer : 250$ (or maybe less)

But this will only give you 8, if you need 10, then another box, like a delta 44 would add 4 more inputs / outputs.

There's the tascam 1641, with 8 preamp inputs. I see they just dropped the price to 299, not bad. 2 of those would be 16 preamps, but I don't know if you can use 2 at a time with them.

oop, don't need to;

Tascam's write up says 16 inputs: 8 analog preamps, 6 line inputs, digital & midi. So you could put a mixer infront of the 6 line inputs and have 14 ins on one device. Not bad.

I'd research further to be sure you can use all them simultaneously, but it looks like it does.

Yep, the guy on the video said 16 simultaneous inputs.

thanks guys was as i suspected. been saving for a 003 rack + anyways and it has a ADAT connection so once that is purchased adding inputs to that shouldn't be too hard.
