Feb 03, 2010 07:13 am Good morning Coolo.
Yeah, it's new, I launched it a few days back, and actually, announced it via Facebook and Twitter. Right now it's only visible to logged in members, so I can lessen bandwidth usage until I see how much it will use.
The voting (thumbs up, thumbs down) will, at some point, be worked into the top 5 rating system, and possibly into helping customize the playlist (so if you thumbs down something, you won't hear it again)...but the jury is still out on the final plans.
Feb 04, 2010 01:31 pm Is anyone using this? I'd love to hear comments...

Feb 04, 2010 07:01 pm I've been listening at work when time allows. In case you didn't get my PM here's my only suggestion:
I was happily streaming HRC radio for about an hour and a half, enjoying thumbing up and thumbing down (though not knowing exactly how the 'thumbing' effects the song's rating) when I was called away from my desk. I forgot about the radio and probably slurped up a ridiculous amount of bandwidth. Sorry about that. You might see about pausing playback after so long to make sure the listener is still listening. Pandora does this, not sure how it's done though...maybe upload an annoying audio VO snippet along the lines of "ARE YOU STILL LISTENING?" and make it play and halt playback until you hit play again, maybe every 15th song or so?

Feb 05, 2010 01:48 am Ah, well that's why I didn't hear about it, don't do the twit or the face. I personally like it. There's a lot of music by people I'm not familiar with on here that's pretty good. My only comment is that occasionally there will be a test song or something (Loki had a track with just some drum sounds that apparently he was just testing out) that you have to fast forward through, but other than that, it's cool. Haven't used the thumb feature too much though.

Feb 05, 2010 01:50 am I've listened a couple times, it really needs to allow selecting the Genre(s) though. Not that you couldn't sneek a song or 2 every now and then from outside the selected genre's but I'd consider it must to have the option of genres.

Feb 05, 2010 06:54 am It may not be visible if one hides the ads, which might be the problem BH...it's in the left hand column...I'll need to figure out some new design/placement for the link.
Genre's, yeah, I knew that'd come up pretty quickly...I'm still trying to figure out how to handle genre's...right now our list is weak..."rock" is so generic...but I don't want 100 genre's for 300 songs, ya know?
With the thumbs up/down thing I am hoping to create an intelligence of some sort to dynamically create your play list as you like and dislike things...but that could prove hard at the coolest level, easy at the lowest sophistication level.
Feb 05, 2010 06:56 am When uploading songs, there is a checkbox to check if it's for test/critique only, to keep it out of the radio, lists and charts...that isn't saying people will use it, but it is there

Yup, that was it! Swtiched on the banners and it appeared.
Cheers!
Feb 05, 2010 01:51 pm I'll get a link in a better location...under my account or something.

Yeah, I know it'll be a headache, I don't think we need a ton of genre's though, just catch alls for the various genre's ie: one Rock, Country, Hip Hop and related, etc. At the least you should probably have a filter for the R rated songs. :D
The radio is a cool addition, looking forward to whatever enhancements you can make on it.
