Small Bar/Pub set up advice

I know I can rely on you guys to help me as always !!

I have friends who own a small bar 800 sq feet ( 75m²) and we are looking to improve the sound system.

We are limited to 95dB ( we have to pass through a limiter ) due to local laws on noise polution

The room is a rectangle, but with the advantage ( i think ) of having different angled ceilings, part is sloped, part flat, part sloped.....

The system will be used for general music, PC based with sound card, CD player etc.....But wer are also looking into having the ability to put small accoustic formations through it 2/3/4 piece guitar vocals etc (no drums) (mixer and connections/leads i'll deal with at a later date)

The Question !! We have been recommended a system comprising of 4 x JBL control 1 satellite speakers
www.jblpro.com/catalog/Ge...=195&MId=2,
with a sub www.jblpro.com/catalog/su...3&doctype=3
and a yamaha p3500 amp.............for 1500€ or 2100 USD

Do you think that This system will be ok for what i have suggested or do you have any other ideas.............Understanding that we wish to keep around this budget of 2 - 2500 USD

Look forward to hearing your opinions

Ya know, given the size of the room, and the db limit, I am kind of wondering if the sub woofer is even necessary, as the bass wave would just barely have room to even develop, really (slight exaggeration, but it makes my point).

Perhaps 15" w/horn speakers, spread evenly throughout the venue would help spread the sound evenly without having to get crazy loud in any one area...perhaps just a single decent sized speaker like that in each corner, and maybe even a couple small ones in the center aimed out the long way of the rectangle for even coverage.

You know, you could probably get away with some cheaper speakers than those JBL's. I love my harbingers, and there are plenty of decent speaker manufacturers. That said, JBL's do sound VERY nice and if you've got the money, go for it haha. (Also btw, i couldn't see anything from that link. I think its my computers fault but that means i couldn't see the price.)

But ya, JBL's are probably worth it so idk why i'm even posting this lol. But just realize there are other options out there if you're on a budget.

Also +1 to what DB said.

Big Question......... What's the weighting on the dB scale?

If it's 95 dB "C" weighted. Then OK. I guess the control 1's will........ (Can't believe I'm saying this!)...... They will be OK. (Hate Control 1's!)

If it's dB "A" weighted. Then you can go with something a little better suited for the bar. Something with just a little oomph to it.

Thanks for the quick response as ever.

dB - My original idea would have been to have full range speakers in each corner aswell, but due to wall space availability, doors etc I don't have the space available (strange but true!)

Fragile - I do have the option of Martin Audio or Electrovoice as well in that price range..........

Rob - after reading and translating the reg's (as I'm in france) I believe it is class A (thanks for the wiki ! ) What do you suggest as an alternative to the control 1's.........?

Let me see what I can come up with for you.

I do have very good contacts with Turbosound. Maybe they have something that will work in your price range.

I know this may get the stink eye from some people, but the Bose L1 systems work pretty darn well for smaller venues.

www.bose.com/controller?u...stems/index.jsp

The sound is very nicely spread, and feedback is virtually none, even while in front of the system. Plus it takes very little space.

We had 2 sets (pole and bass module) for our vocals and light guitar duty when I was giggin and they did a very nice job.

I'd suggest 2, with a sub each. That may be over your budget, but may be worth a look.

pjk has a good little system there that may work for you.

I don't know what your cost would be in France for them. But, they are OK.

I have been striking out with Turbosound right now. They are all just getting back from NAMM.

But, there is a company that ROCKS over where you are. Nexo. And they have a small club system that would be perfect for you. They are a little expensive here. But, they may not be for you.
