Pro Tools 8 Installation

I just bought a MBox 2 Mini which comes with Pro Tools 8. When trying to install this on my MacBook it says I need OS 10.5 or above. I have Leopard 10.4, and apparantly I have to buy the Snow Leopard box set for $165 to get to 10.5. Seems crazy to me to spend that just to be able to install this software. Do I have another option? I also have a desktop Dell that is about 8 yrs old that has XP, should I just install it on that, right now says I need to update RAM for it to install PT8 (which I guess is easy enough). Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Welcome to HRC.

Well, seems to me you have three options:

1- upgrade your mac (costs more)
2- use your XP after upgrading ram (costs more)
3- return it and try something else (likely cost less)

Usually these requirements are on the box the equipment comes in. I'd suggest paying more attention to those in the future...not that that will help you today.

I'd say return it myself, then go get something less proprietary...but that's just me. If you want to try it, upgrade the mac or the XP with the RAM you need, either way, you'll be spending more.

Thanks for the quick reply man appreciate it. From what I can tell I can't return software to Guitar Center. Absolutely a bonehead move, but I figured no way it wouldn't take to my Mac. I may just update the RAM. Tempted to just stick with my Tascam 4 track!

Yeah, there are rules about software returns once it's opened, but since it was with a hardware bundle I thought maybe there would be a chance.

That sucks, man...
