I read this in one of the publishing blogs I keep tabs on. The most successful DIY story I've seen since I've been paying attention. This slicethepie website sounds a lot like a concept you guys were talking about in a thread discussing the weaknesses in thesixtyone I think...

Jan 21, 2010 04:30 pm We did!!! Not just special, extreeeeemely special :) But really, she sings very strong, has a great range and is not afraid to sing jazz on up to hard rock. We have 8 songs down already (she writes too!!!) and are trying to get 10 before we start booking any shows.
Can't wait until a few months down the road when we are "almost" sure things won't change so we can track a few of them.

We have a OUTSTANDING vocal talent here local in BFE. She went from nailing Broken Wing, to nailing You Shook Me All Night Long, plus Pat Benetar, and others.
It was truly magical.
But, she's a user, and has had very bad childhood so she's super-un-predictable. Won't answer the phone, or the door. She will to a few people, but nobody else =/.
So all practices got ignored, and nothing happened. My drummer and I were totally stoked, then totally broken hearted =(.
Ha, plus we have a crankin' guitar ace that's a user/drinker/putz. Didn't show for practices either, now he's recuperating from a drunken motorcycle accident. ugh.
So again, congrats that you got one that's good! Keep her happy (well, you know what I mean).
