Well, today was the first day of work, and everything went pretty smoothly. It's a PC Deployment spot at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The folks are pretty easy going and friendly, and my training and getting to know the place was with one of the more pro-active members of the team, so yeah, good start all around. Should be a good 1st quarter.

Congrats. You might need to change your title though...

Right on! Congrats, J-bot!! Always good to hear someone winning the 'job game' these days.

A new job is what I'm aiming for this year. I've been 'stuck' at this cab company for the last 16... that's right, 16... years. All was fine working here, until just a couple of years ago, when they basically cut my pay in half, and right after that the bottom fell out of Michigans economy leaving no options for me to persue. It's been a rough couple of years, 'round here.

Last month, a former employee of ours stopped by to offer me a job at a transportation/logistics company based in the Houston, TX area that I am very seriously considering. I'd be on the road for weeks/months at a time, which would take a bit of getting used to, but just may be what this old man needs to clear his head a bit... a few thousand miles of pristine southern highway. Still, quite a big change to consider.

HOO-RAY!

Congrats, and like Hue said, good to hear someone getting back into the + side of things.

Also like Hue said, MI has been in the tank, leading the US in unemployment for quite a while. 15.9% last I looked. This when the Country was getting close to 10%. Ugh, plus, northern MI is more around 20%. Double ugh.

Anyway, glad to hear it, and doubly good that you're still in the field.

Yeah, the northern side of the state is definately a bit worse off. I lived in Gaylord for a couple of years, when I was a younger man... the 'Employment Comission' in the area had two jobs to offer me: 1-working in a sawmill, and 2-laying natural-gas-piping through swampland... I took the swamill. ; )

That is not to be understated, these days... alot of people are flipping careers like pancakes.

Jeezuz, as a consultant I go through the process of finding a new job at least twice a year, it really, really sucks these days...I have managed to keep working for the most part...but yeah, it's tough out there...

Good thing we gave away 787 billion dollars to corporate execs to create jobs...

I just about gave up on I.T. and sometimes I still think about getting out of it altogether. I would like to go back into graphic design but the pay is just not as good.... and the music business.... well, lets just leave it at that.

i hate hearing about friends of mine and people i know ,loosing or not being able to find jobs. I nice to hear a good story so congrats. My job hasn't fizzled , and i don't see it going away any time soon ( as long as they need logistics in the military i'm good) . I just have to deal with the B.S of deployment and the like.

Congrats J-Bot.

I'll be interested to see what its like to be a part of the workforce when the economy is in good shape. I've only been working IT since 2006...

True enough dB. A couple of the team members have some side ventures going on. One guy wants to start a web hosting bit, and another is doing some freelance web development with PHP. I may try my hand at that sometime, since I know a bit of PHP. I showed the old file-upload script I wrote, and they were kinda like. "Dude, why are you here doing deployment? You should go check out Vangent, they're always needing web developers." I was like yeah...well...maybe at some point.

About the only thing I know is some php, bit of css, html, nothing too fancy. I know enough javascript to be able to modify existing code.

Ah, anyway, the first week is done, and my time sheet was approved and sent in, so huzzah, payment should start coming in soon. I'll have to see what happens for the rest of the quarter. We've got a little less than 600 deploys to do by end of March. I think we all work pretty well together and get along pretty decently. I've not had anyone get rubbed the wrong way by my actions yet at least, which is usually a good sign hehe. The work isn't too bad though. I figure if I can get to doing around 8-ish deploys done in a day, I'll be doing pretty good.

Supposed to have a talk with the main bossman Monday to bring me up to speed after having gotten settled in a bit, and to iron out any bad habits the other members taught me heh.

Anyway, I'll see how it goes. If nothing else comes up in April, I may do another quarter of deployments, but we'll see.
