dp01fxcd low volume when mastering

Hello everybody,
I'm new to this game, and I'm using a Tascam dp01fxcd. I've recoorded a few songs, but when I master the tracks to the in-built cd burner, the volume on the finalised cd is very very low when played back on a conventional cd plaer. A friend of mine has had the exact same problem. Any tips would be very welcome.
Thanks

I am guessing you are saying it's very low compared to conventional, commercially produced CD's, correct?

What you are dealing with is the evils of the music industry...most labels squash the living hell out of their music, partly for the good of radio broadcast, partly to just be "louder" and it removes a lot of the dynamics of the music in the mean time.

There are plugins called "Ultramaximizers" (Waves has a couple decent ones) that are essentially compressors in many ways, this will help you get the volume you want out of your recordings...

yo jones, you might have some success with putting a "limiter" on your master output and bringing the threshold down until you see it just beginning to show gain reduction. hope this helps!

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to do some research cos, as I say I'm new to this home recording game, and I'm not very technically minded I'm afraid! I thought using the dp01cd would be simpler than using a computer for recording, but obviously not. I'll do some research along the lines of what you've suggested. Thanks again for the advice.

Sorry, I should have added 'yes' it's low compared to a commercially produced cd, when played back on a normal cd player.
