First time recording equip hook up HELP!

I have a home recording studio software but I'm not quite sure if I have all the appropriate hardware to connect my instruments so that my computer receives it's signal to enable recording.
What I have besides my guitar and microphone as externals is a XENYX 502 (premium 5-input 2-bus mixer, ic preamp, EQ) and a BOSS ME-50 multi effects pedal.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, and first off, welcome to HRC.

It sounds like you have the proper external pieces.

Now, a few questions: First off, which software are you using? Also, are you using any kind of audio interface or sound card like M-Audio, or Line6, or any devices like that inside the computer itself? What are you using to listen to the playback? Are you generally using headphones, or do you have anything like nearfield speakers?

Oh, and how many instruments are you planning on recording at once?

It sounds to me like you have everything you would need, just send your guitar and mic signals to the mixer, and the mixer to the line inputs on your sound card. If your soundcard has a breakout box with enough inputs/outputs and preamps, then you might consider taking the mixer out of the chain all together to avoid any noise it might throw into the signal.

Feel free to ask us anything if you have questions. That's what we're all here for. :)

you need to get an "audio interface"...usually USB or FireWire.....you can kinda use your line input 1/8" on your soundcard (NOT MIC INPUT) connect your master out (usually RCA) from your mixer to that with an adapter cable....

but the best way would be to get a dedicated audio interface to completely bypass your0 soundcard.
