Real soothing. Love the layers of guitars. That acoustic guitar way in the background is especiallly enchanting. Strange topic to sing about. Must be an exciting job, and scary too. Just listening to the lyrics, I would almost think you'd been over there. I guess you're the type who can project himself into a situation and derive an accurate observance based on minimal facts. I'm the same way, and it's great because I get to see things from so many perspectives.

Oh yeah, the song, great job. I wouldn't change a thing. One of your better songs for sure. I think it's great how you music all has a similar feel to it, which will make mastering the lot of them into a CD a painless and fruitful experience.

I think i hear at least 4 guitar tracks there, maybe two acoustics, an electric and a bass? Help me out here. Tell me more about the layers I'm hearing. Your stuff just seems to stick together really nicely.

dmcvey,
Just checked out your IUMA site to get familiar with your stuff and I really liked alot of it. I think "A Life Less Ordinary" is my fav. I really like your chord progressions alot. I hope this doesn't offend but they remind me alot of Collective Soul, who I am a huge fan of. Your recordings are very good also. I'm kind of a novice at the recording aspect of things so that's all I really have to offer as far as recording critique goes.
I am curious as to how you did the drums and your process for recording.

I really like this one man. The vocal melodies are super sweet. I especially like the "it's raining out in space..." part. You also have a great clean guitar tone in this one and I love the layering of guitars.

I can't come up with much in the way of criticism other than the drums sound very "machined." I know there's only so much you can do, but I thought I would mention it.

Nice one man! Now, get that damn CD going already!

Thanks to all for the comments and inquiries.

Jamie, you're right, it is a strange topic, that's what I get for spending 16 hours a day flipping from one news channel to the next. A little pathetic I know. I've been trying to be a little more diligent lately regarding having songs be a little more cohesive, thanks for noticing.

Guitar layering...I use it quite often to soften up a heavy electric sound. As for this piece, the guitars are as follows:

One Acoustic (panned to about 9 oclock) and one bass track all the way through

Intro/ chorus bridge/ending chorus: Two tracks of heavy guitars panned hard left and right. One clean tone up the middle and tucked back in the mix.

Verse 1/Chorus/regular bridge: One clean guitar straight up the middle/one ambient track panned hard right

Verse 2: One ambient guitar track and one slapback delayed and muted guitar

I think that is basically it.

uhuhbigfan, all drums were done in our old favorite, Fruity Loop 3. All drums are on one track with one EQ and a little Verb added to take the edge off.

Blue, as you know I suffer from LAWDLTPDD (translation: Lazy artist who doesn't like to program drums disease). I agree, a bit machiney and simple.

I think that about covers everyone's comments. Thanks again for taking the time to give it a listen.
