well im not using 5.1 but, left, right, centre and centre surround. (LRCS)
ive mucked around with setting up the speakers and stuff, and have some questions.
left and right comes with a surround sound panning system which is all good, but the centre and centre surround comes with a "half " suround system (front and back adjustments only) which im assuming is just for centre depth placement as i cant move it left or right.
Im getting, for example, only guitars in the left and right speakers and in the centre ones im getting guitars also and drums.
im still working stuff out but, how would the panning go using this style of surround?
Ie, where to put the instruments etc, especialy for the center surround (back speaker)?
the back and center speaker only really have a depth adjustment and seems to have the full mix in them which is fair enough but, what am i putting in the left and right?

Oct 23, 2009 08:54 am traditional 5.1 us supposed to be:
L+R is a stereo music mix (speakers 30 degrees off axis)
Center is dialog
Rear L+R is ambiance (110 degrees)
and a Low Frequency Effects Channel
All speakers are supposed to be in a circle (equidistant from center)
Oct 23, 2009 10:11 am Before going anywhere - Is this a discrete system? 4 (or 5?) channels IN and 4 (or 5?) channels OUT (with the ability to take any input and control it 360)? Or is it some sort of DPL system that's going to 'make up its own mind' and adjust itself via phase information...?

Oct 23, 2009 11:07 am all i can tell ya is, im using Cubase 4 which has surround sound capabilties, actually its has a big list 6.1, 5.1 ,5.0, Quadro, LRCS (which is what im trying) and some others.
basicly i can pan anywhere i want using the panning system on each track, so yeah anywhere 360.
I only have 4 assignable outs on my interface and is why im trying LRCS.
I guess i could try the Quadro but im not really sure what that is.
So anyway, i able to go 1,2,3,4 in and out, using LRCS.

Oct 24, 2009 02:03 am im not getting into the whole LRCS thing though really, its a bit off putting to have the one surround directly behind you.
im proly not doing everything right pan wise but, its also hard to have a centre speaker in front because of the monitor screen being in the centre also.
its not gonna happen overnight anyway.
