Tascam-144 Recording Noise issue

Hey I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction..

I'm a complete novice at this recording thing. I installed the newest drivers for my OS (Vista64) ( www.tascam.com/i-406-232-128-9-12192F8D.zip ) and Windows sound properties and Cubase both pick up sound good coming from my device.

My Tascam US-144 USB interface is configured as sooooooooo (

).

I am playing a (semi out of tune) Em on an acoustic guitar plugged directly into Line / Guitar In (R) (yes, rly).

However, when I try to record, it sounds like this .. ( home.comcast.net/~njfsc_test/bs.wma )

I recorded it in Windows sound recorder and it also sounded like this.

I noticed in the properties for the recording device (

) that the bit-rate is only 16-bit .. shouldn't it be 48-bit?

Whatcha think? Do you Need any more info?

thanks in advance!

No, 16 bit is pretty much standard and 44.1kHz is correct as well.

It sounds like you have one of several issues going on. The pre amp in your elector acoustic is shot or has a dieing battery and is causing you to have to turn the channel input up. I noticed the knob is cranked to the max. That itself may cause huge problems with noise as the pre amp is being pushed too hard and that in turn clips the input of whatever recording ap you are using. Also you could have cable issues or even in the software your input is not set up correctly.
