Is there anyone using Delta series cards from M-Audio in a Windows-7 DAW?

I was going to upgrade my OS, but when I looked for soundcard drivers, I found that they don't include any for windows-7.

Do I just go with the Vista-64bit drivers for my Delta cards?

I dunno about M-Audio but so far Windows 7 has worked with all my Audio stuff using Vista drivers. It also allows you to select OS compatibility when you install anything (Win XP, Win Vista, etc). Windows 7 is amazing and works so much better than Vista for recording - it's FANTASTIC!

From the little that I know about Windows 7. The official release for 7 is October 22.

And the companies that I deal with have set the driver release date for the same. Such as Yamaha, Sound Devices, and Smaartlive.

Maybe M-audio is the same?

Well, I hope it works-out something like you're saying, Rob. I know that M-Audio can sometimes take their time with driver releases... hell, the Xp-64 they put out is still in beta after... well, forever.

Maybe W7 will be more of a 'big deal', and they'll be more on-task with it, like the companies you mentioned.

and yeah, Strangedogs... what I've seen of it, is pretty dang sweet! : ) I'll be quite happy if everything works out.

Thanks for the insite, guys!

I was using my Delta 44 with the Vista drivers and the Win7 RC with no problems. If you go to M-Audio's forum there is a beta Win7 driver available to download. From what I've heard it's working pretty well.

Sweet! Thanks Dan.

They must've put them up on W7s release-day(yesterday), as they weren't there the day I posted this question, and I haven't had the time too look again since. : ) Veddy cool!

Seriously? WTF? So they took about 9 friggin months to release Vista compatible drivers, but they have Win7 drivers out before the actual release date?

Man, MS really screwed the pooch with Vista and this drives it home for me. They gave everybody a pretty late start with Vista, not allowing any hardware manufacturers to have development versions of the OS until a few months before release. I take it that this time around, they had ample time to develop compatible drivers before release. Plus Vista totally revamped the sound system, and I take it that the change wasn't as drastic with Win7.

M-Audio was one of the last companies to get Vista drivers to their customers, so it's surprising to me that they're ahead of the curve for the next gen Win OS.

Sorry, but I'm still a little sore about their failure to get Vista drivers for my Delta 44 in a reasonable amount of time after its release.

Yeah...Vista was a pretty floppy release.

Back when Vista was in development they called it "Longhorn". Part of the development included a new kernel. Apparently kernel development was behind schedule so they decided to adapt the Server 2003 kernel for the release of Vista instead of the "from-scratch" Longhorn kernel. When Ray Ozzie took the position of CTO at MS he brought the original Longhorn kernel project back for Windows 7. The new kernel does seem to improve performance considerably from the adapted Server 2003 Longhorn kernel in Vista.

I think most people in IT agree that Windows 7 is the most exciting MS OS since Windows 2000. That probably explains why M-Audio is more willing to release drivers for Win7 on time.

In 2005 when Vista was released, even Microsoft was pulling people away from the Vista project to improve Windows XP and Server 2003.

I think M-Audio took a real beating with their slow Vista driver releases and made sure they were closer to being ready for Win7's release especially since Win7 has had such favorable reviews all along. They could have had Vista drivers available in a timely manner, they like all developers had access to interim builds of Vista but their stance at the time was they weren't doing anything until Vista went Gold and it cost them in customer loyalty.

Hue:

The beta Win7 driver has been available for awhile, but they aren't actively promoting it, it's pretty well hidden, you have too check the beta part of the forum to even know one exists.

You do realize Cakewalk had Sonar Vista ready long before Vista was released. Sometimes it pays to be the pesky dog swimming in the big pond.

It seems that there were not other DAW software that were treated like that. And I can well imagine that the hardware makers were treated poorly as well, but possibly due to not nagging MS hard enough. But maybe it is a money thing as well. Cough up enough and you'll be allowed to be part of the plan.

Then I'm thinking MS decided that was a bad idea and that was why the RC candidates were distributed so freely giving everyone including manufacturer's a shot at getting their ducks in a row.

Dunno, MS is just lame that way. but ya. 7 is just Vista without all the phone home crap and extra CPU hogging garbage turned on.
