Hello people. im new to this forum and im glad to have become a part of this interesting community.

im a classical piano player and composer. im starting a musical project of field recording/neo-classical music and im gonna need some help here. i need 2 good microphones to record my acoustic piano at home, and to use the same mics to do field recording, because at the moment i cnt spend extra money for these 2 different ways of recording.

the choice of microphones was made for piano recording initially, and id like your opinion about how well they could perform in field recording too.

The Microphones are JTS JS-1E

here is the link and the specifications:

How much do those cost? I have never heard of them and can't find any stores that sell them. I imagine LDC mics would be the way to go for piano as they will pick up all nuances but I would definitely at least look at other options like MXL, RODE or KARMA.

Also, what is your price range?

Oh, at that price you can't go wrong :)

I am just curious if people use SDC or LDC for piano, mine was an assumption so waiting to hear from someone who has actually recorded a piano would probably be best.

Case in point, on overheads some people like SDC for accuracy while some like LDC for all the subtle tones.

as ive read on many forums, i still have to experiment the positions of the mics for my recordings. there r 3 ways to record properly so guess ill have to try all 3 ways. i was just wondering if these mics with these specifications could perform well for field recording, its 20Hz-20.000Hz. but still if there is someone who can make a comment about SDC or LDC for piano recording that would be great, thanx for mentioning it by the way Tripps

I've used both SDC and LDC on grand piano. I prefer and LDC for a bit more open sound.

And yes, you will need to work on which set up is gong to work best depending on the room you are in. Each space will require a slightly different mic set up. And even using a specific technique you may end up modifying the position you use the mic's in.

Oh yes, and I was going to mention. I have read a bit about those mic's. They are comparable to some of budget mic's here in the US. I do know they are made in Taiwan and have had issues before. Though that was some time ago. Just remember not to expect the sound of a 100 EUR mic to match that of a higher end model.

But these will work well if you take care as to how and were you use them. I'm a huge fan a cheap mic's and modding them. but sometimes cheap mic's can be a diamond in the rough.
