Broken Pan/Bal Knob on AW1600

I have a chance to pick-up a fully-functional AW1600 for $500 (v. $999 new and about $750 used on eBay). The only defect is that the knob on the pan/bal pot is broken off. It can still be adjusted by turning with a screwdriver. My questions:

1.) Assuming I can live with the inconvenience, is there any practical or other reason to be concerned about the missing knob?

2.) How big a deal is it to fix something like this?

Thanks.

If your handy with electronics it should not be a huge deal to dig in and do the pan pot. Although I do not remember for sure, but I think that unit had the pot's mounted on a card, so you might need a bit of soldering skill as well.
