If I record on the first line and record on the second one thereafter the second line is losing time on the first one.
What I did later on was to record the metronome on the first line then I switched the metronome off and put the recording input on “What you Here” then I record the metronome on the first line straight to the second line and immediately the second line is as if it is losing time. The longer it records the more time it is losing. I do not know what to do can you help.

What are you using to record? are you using multitrack software on a pc? If so what is it called? If you are then that is normal as the computer takes time to process the audio - hence why it goes out of time sometimes - the more you record, the more audio it has to process so the more it goes out of time. It probably depends on the speed of your pc but with my pc, with every track I record I need to move it to match up with others.

So thats it really, once you have more than one track, zoom into the track which is out of time - so you can see the wave clearly and match up the loud parts of the wave (which will show the beat).

Though if you are using multitrack software on a pc, there should be a metronome function somewhere that will play the beat for you to keep in time with - you can specify the beat yourself. You should also be able to set the time signature or bpm etc of the piece, which will give you a grid showing each beat with a line - simply zoom in and match your audio to that.

Once it has been matched, you can cut the audio at that exact point (if you turn "snapping" on you can cut exactly on the beat) and then copy and paste that part as it repeats in the song - giving you on-the-beat snippets each time.

hope that answers your question

It sounds like you are using the built in sound card to record with.

While that can work it does not have the ability to work like a little better card will. They do not have higher performance drivers built for them so they were not really meant to work that way.

What you are experiencing is called latency, and that is not an easy fix with a stock sound card. The what you hear button needs to be off in order to not have the metronome recorded onto another track.
