Wireless Microphone set up.

Today, my company sent me and another employee to the Shure wireless seminar.

It was interesting to find out that we were operating all of the wireless in our shop 100% WRONG!

Here is what I found out about running more then one channel of wireless during a show.

If you run at high power, then you are going to create another issue that happens in the wireless units themselves. What that is, the radio signal enters into the second unit. The second unit re amplifies the signal, and creates a second radio signal. That will be equal to in spacing in Mhz's of the two transmitters are spaced in the spectrum.

So, if you have the two mic's that are, let's say 100Mhz apart. At normal power, you will get a third interval that is spaced 100Mhz above, and 100Mhz below your transmitter frequencies. These third intervals will be at 1/2 of the transmitter power. So, if your transmitter is broadcasting at 12dB. Then your interval will be at 6dB.

If your at high power, then you can get as many as 5 intervals that will show up in the spectrum! All spaced at between the two original transmitter Mhz spacing. Making the frequency band that you are in, very crowded!

And now add a third transmitter....... It can be almost impossible to find an open channel for your wireless mic's.

The solution to all of this, is to run at low power at all times with more then one wireless transmitter. 10mw is more then fine for all of your wireless equipment. And, try to keep your wireless equipment apart from one another.

If you have a wireless transmitter for your instrument, and one for your headset mic. Then you want to try and keep them as far apart as you can on your person.

Now, there was a lot more info that was given about the antennas. Since I don't want to be here all night typing that information in here. I will just say that the whip antennas that are sold with all units, are all you really need.

It's a great seminar. If any of you get a chance to attend, I would highly recommend it.

That's some great info. I as well did not know that, but can see exactly why it wouldn't be good.
