I'm new to the computer recording software thing and have tried to get home studio 2004 working. There is only one input/output option and still no sound when I choose it. What driver do I need to download, or is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks!

Define Home Studio 2004? Is that Cakewalk Sonar HS? If so, that is software, drivers are hardware specific, so if you'd need a driver it'd be for your sound card.

What type of sound card are you using?

Yep, can you tell us exactly which software. And are you using the built in sound card of your PC or do you have a different card or interface installed?

If your sound card doesn't have WDM or ASIO driver options available in the application audio config options, download ASIO4ALL (google it) and install it. Sometimes that driver works best for some folks.

Actually the ASIO4ALL is an ASIO emulator. It needs the sytem to have a WDM driver in order for it to work.

Depending on the on board sound card being used Windows may have or the company that makes the chip might have a driver update for it. I know my surf box which is a slightly modded Dell has a funky higher end chip in it and runs WDM drivers. So its a matter of digging into your PC's specs a little and seeing what is available.

Also, are you running Vista by chance?

If so you are out of luck as HS 2004 was not developed for Vista, as Vista didn't even exist back then.

You would need to upgrade to a newer version to use it in Vista.
