I knew that white noise is all the frequencies at once, like the sound of static from a television which is the background noise fo space, the cosmic radiation from the stars that we are constantly being bombarded with. It's the same sound that you hear at the waterfalls, or in a room full of fans, etc.

Note really sure what all they can be used for. I know that one form of sound synthesis, "subtractive synthesis", is when a synth makes a sound by starting with white noise and filters out the the unwanted frrequencies, sort of sculpting the sound like a sculpter carves a figure from a whole stone. I think another thing you can do with white noise is, since it contains the whole audible spectrum, you can test equpiment for frequency responce. if you send white noise through a device, but the 16kHz to 22kHz range doens't come out the other end, then the equipment doens't respond to those freqs.
