Free VST Plugin ?

I am new to midi and have done some compuet recording with Cakewalk in the past. I am currently running Cubase 4LE. I am considering Cakewalk Sonar.

That being said I did not know I would need VST plugin's when I got into Midi.

What I am trying to do is assign .wav samples to my midi keyboard controller (M-Audio Axiom 25). I loaded up Cubase 4LE and played around with Halion1. After reading about Halio1 I am under the impression I am going to need a VST PlugIn .

Is there a free or inexpensive VST plug in that will allow me to use my own .wav samples and assign them to my midi controller?

You actually don't assign the sound to your controller. You load them into a sampler of sorts and then the controller simply sends the note data to the target sampler or synth whether it is software or hardware.

You can head over to KVR and do a search for sampler software and then you will find a collection of freeware, shareware and pay for applications.

As for Sonar, you would get a few handful of synths and a sampler type software included depending on the version you purchase.

I have been a Cakewalk/Sonar user since their beginning.
