Is it better to use XLR cables to hook my interface to my mixer? Or would it be better to use TRS cables? Does it matter?
Also, if I'm just using my interface...not my mixer...to record and playback...is it better to turn my computer volume all the way up and then control the levels on the monitors? or would it be better to keep the computer at a certain volume...like half way?

Jul 02, 2009 11:43 pm That really only depends on the cable. They are both balanced and as long as they are comparable quality it wouldn't matter a whole lot. I use both depending on the situation. I have a monitor section that runs 1/4 TRS and then a mains section that runs XLR.
I recently switched my main and monitor amp connection's as well to XLR and didn't really notice any difference as the older TRS cables were of the same quality so it wasn't huge difference.
On the playback output level. As long as your outputs do not clip on the interface, which they shouldn't you can turn it up to a decent level. Most interfaces do not use any gain stage in their outputs so it is really line level. As long as your amp section can handle the output just bring it up to what ever is comfortable.
