My turn with live sound.

Ok, I see it's a reoccurring thing where everyone posts the gear they have so I will do the same. here's what I have
Yamaha MG166cx Mixer
QSC 1450 power amp
2 Kustom 215 towers
1 Pevey 118 sub
3 Kustom 10" floor mons
1 Mackie 406M (used as a power amp)

I am thinking of gettiing another Sub and 1 or 2 more power amps soon too.
My question is with what I have, How would I hook up the mons to the mixer where I can control how much volume of each instrument/vocals that come through the mons. would I use the aux ins and outs? Or would I somehow use the groups?
I'm not new to running sound but I am new to hooking it up. Any Input would be great. Thanks

connect your aux sends (outputs) to a power amp, then to a monitor....keep in mind, you only have two aux sends, so this will only mean you can have two distinct "mix's" say one for the front of the stage, and one for the drummer.

yup, to control the "mix" volumes, turn up the aux volume and that broadcasts more of that channel to the monitors,

for example, in channel one if its your vocal mic, and your drummers monitor is aux2 and hes like "yo! i need more vocals in my monitor!"

you look at your channel one and turn up aux 2 on it, and more vocals will go to that monitor,

or you may have the kick on channel 7 and the singers like "i cant keep a beat, i need more kick in my monitor"
and his monitor is aux1

so you go to the channel 7 kick drum, and turn up the aux1, sending more of that channel to aux1, or in other words, you monitor 1 :D

its that simple

another little monitor trick you can do with this, is you can plug in a mic near you, and keep the fader and or the mute on that channel, but, when you want to talk to the artists but not to the whole venue, you turn up that channel you plugged that mic into on aux1 and aux2, and that mic is now being sent to onloy the monitors, and the crowd can barely hear you while the band can hear you

yeah i gotta admit, this is one of the best sites geared tward home recordists....it's kept me commin' back for over 4 years now. this place has a good way of filtering out the bad apples, and keepin' the good ones around. more so than any other open online community that i've ever seen.
