Using EZdrummer/ toontrack solo with Cubase AI 4

First, I am new to this forum but I have read enough posts to know that someone may be able to help me out. I am relatively new to the self-recording world. I just purchased the Yamaha Audiogram 6 which came with Cubase AI 4. I first bought a nanoPAD (POS) and I guess Vista 64 didn't like it so I couldn't use it.... but... the nano came with EZdrummer LITE / Toontracks solo. I have figured out enough of the Cubase to record and export 3 tracks as a wav. What I can't figure out, even reading the "manual" is how to trim and fade in our out on the tracks. I will learn through trial and error I suppose. I am wondering though... once I figure out the EZ error "failed to load Audio" how to import tracks form EZdrummer into Cubase. Sorry for the lengthy post. Again, I am running Vista Premium. I have used Audacity for a while so I know a little about the programs but Cubase is A LOT... Thanks -E.T.

hey ethree,
ok, well with the fade in and outs in Cubase, the bit that you have recorded, the long oblong box with the waveform in it that sits in your project, if you have a look at each end "at the top" you'll see a little blue or black triangle in the corner.
click and hold on that, drag it across till you see a line going across the waveform. that is the fade right there.

If you put your arrow/cursor over this line and dble click, it'll bring up all the different fade shapes you can use. it takes a while to get used to clicking on it, coz when you miss it, it takes you to the edit window, just close that down till you get the fades box. it only pretty small.

with EZDrmmer, its drag and drop.
when you get the loop you want in EZ, where it states what loop it is in the little box somehwere there, just click and hold on that, then drag the loop in to the project and dump it in the track you want.

If cubase makes a new track each time you do this, come back here and lemme know and i'll show you what to do there too. hopefully tis all good.

Does AI 4 have a help tab up above the program UI? It might be in there.

But most DAW's aer similar and there should be a tool that you select up in the toolbar. It more then likely will be the draw tool and you right click in the audio track then select to draw a fade in or out.

That would be the simplest thing for them to do, but odds are good it isn't that easy since its a lite version.

That said, being a lite version as well it may not have those type of tool's. It would be foolish to not have them but not the first time a program left out simple things like that to get you to upgrade to the bigger program.

For the EZ drummer tracks. I would try exporting them from EZ as wav files and then import them into Cubase.

Thanks, that helps a lot... YES I read the "help" files and I guess they expect that you have used the program(s) before as I could not wrap my mind around some of it. I do have some tutorial videos and a few links but I believe, now that I know how to go about fading and introducing drum tracks... I will be able to do what I am trying to do and the rest of it will just be learned as I go. I am glad I found this forum. I have already learned quite a bit. Thanks. -E.T.

Hi there. I am new to cubase and EZ drummer and new to home recording as well. I was able to make the basics of Cubase and EZ drummernwork work fine, but I am stuck with the following issue. I believe that Deon migth have the answer as he explains this issue above.

Every time I drag a groove from EZ drummer to Cubase a new track is created. How can I fix this and drag all the groves to one unique track? Do you know if this would stack all the groves and fills automatically withouth any "silent" gaps in between?

help please!

I'm not a big Cubse user, haven't used it in years. But I do believe you can select the drum/groove tracks you want in one track and then choose to mix down to one target track. That would put the entire collection of beats into one straight track.

Deon may have a better idea though that might be as easy or easier.

Thank you all for your comments, I finally found the solution

the culprit is "auto Dissolve" option. You need to uncheck it.

You will find "Auto Dissolve" in,
Preferences>
Midi File>
Uncheck "auto disolve" option on the left menu.

After doing so my problems were gone.
