Mixing...Compressing...Busses

Hello,

I've been reading a lot about mixing lately and read about how sometimes its a good idea to run a compressor through a bus and assign it to the entire mix. I think this is more of a mastering technique, but anyways, how would i go about making a bus assign to the entire output signal? I am using Sonar 7 PE

I already have separate compressors assigned to individual tracks for different purposes, this is really just a tool for the final mixdown and overall output

Does anyone ave any experience with this? Im still kinda new at mixing techniques and am not sure if this is even a good idea or not.

Well it depends on if the mix really needs that little extra push in the end.

But that said, which version of Sonar 7 do you have Studio or Producer Edition?

There are a couple mastering level plugs that you might have if you have PE.

But on the buss thing. Simply create a new stereo buss and name it so you'll know. That or you can assign a comp in the master buss as well. That would accomplish the same thing really.

Then you simply assign which tracks you want running through that buss.

So I add the buss the same way i would add an effects send buss when adding reverb or delay etc. Just assign each track to that bus. I was just checking to see if maybe there was a way to assign a compressor to entire mix.

In that case im probably better off mixing everything down to one final track and then add the comps and mastering tools to that final track to give it a little boost...right?

Im running Producer edition.

Im mainly using the IK multimedia T-racks 3...it has some great comps in there....a fairchild version...my fav...

Ya, I guess. Open your track view or simply go down below your regular tracks and right click. It should come up with a couple of choices, insert stereo buss and what not. Then add that name it what have you and then route your tracks through that.
