Phonic is on the same lines as Mackie.

There are mass produced at a low cost. With just one PCB for the whole board.

They are not bad, just cheap.

Just remember, buyer beware. You get what you pay for.

I'll just add that they don't sound like crap. But as rob mentioned.Quality wise you get what you pay for. But it will surely do the job. I know a couple folk's who get along nicely with one.

I do believe that unit is built with modular PCB using 4 card type boards. 3 for the input section's and 1 for the secondary input/output section. But it is still not the best scenario for service as those boards are not cheap to replace compared to the price of the mixer itself.

Phonic was and maybe still an OEM manufacturer/suplier. I am a professional musician of 40 years and have found their mixers to be very sturdy and well thought out. I use a 15 year old 18 channel mixer in my home studio that is self contained in an ATA case with 2 EV aps, 3 effects boards and sever drawers for varios items.

This mixer has been used as a back up monitor system to a complete concert audio system in its life. It has traveled the world.

Yes, you get what you pay for but many times the name cost far too much.

SpotCheck

It has never failed me.

Things have changed with that company in 15 years, just as they have with others. Phonic and Behringer as with others started out with good intention's. Eventually they found cheaper/faster ways to do things. The end result is a lower quality end product then they used to produce.

Even big names such as Mackie and the like do not have the build quality they once had.

So SpotCheck, I'm not telling him to avoid them. Just warning that odd's are 50/50 of getting a flawless product or getting a product that could have 6 moonth's of good service followed by years of repair and problems.

Those things tend to be much more present in the lower dollar product. But as I stated, it isn't crap either. So its a matter of taking your chance with it.

I know Phonic fairly well. In past, a cheap alternative to Mackie, Peavey etc. but more recentely they seem to have come out with some more medium end stuff especially in the unpowered mixer catagory. The Impact 24.4 is noe discontiued but there is a 24.4x that is the same thing but with 16 DSP effects built in. I also cannot find didely squat on it...anywhere. Phonic.com has a PDF download that I cannot seem to get downloaded. I doubt it's my computer either try it and let me know. I also just bought one sight unseen (Impact 24.4), it's on it's way via UPS and I would love to know more about it, reviews, technical, anything. If you have one what do you think about it? and how do you use it? live/studio etc.
Thanks
