was doing some bass recording last night and i kept getting this message "audio dropout detected"

it doesnt seem to matter what i have the latency on or anything else for that matter and the thing is even when it does it while recording, the recording isnt effected. the screen freezes and all but when i click ok in the message, it just resumes recording and nothing is missed.

what could be doing this ya think?

i was using cubase monitoring isntead of direct but it does it when im not recording, and i just smashed another 2g of ram in the compy to a total of 4g.

do i need to allocate this new ram or jut put it in? i dunno.

Did you check the bios on boot up to see if it is seeing the new ram?

You can try setting the page file size up a bit. Not sure that will do it but it can't hurt.

Also, what is the buffer set at?

Ya, I forgot you were on a Mac. I'm not sure either if they do.

But ya, the 2 drum software may have a little to do with it. One way to find out is stop one and use only one and if there are no drop outs there is your answer.

yeah no worries, wouldve thought it to be ok. im sure it was doing it before BFD2 anyway.

its funny, it did it while recording yesterday and i let it go for about 3:50 mins whilst the screen froze and it still recorded everything. bloody wierd.

maybe i send a messsage to Steiny and see what he reckons.

thanks

mmm, still it seems im having these same issues.
even if i turn off the other drum softy, it does it. but its so bloody random, nothing to indicate its struggling or anything like that.

can do it just on playback with the buffer on 786 samples.
But then it wont do it again for ages.

If im just using the same program with no changes for all this time, would i still need to do driver updates?

just found out that the mac doesnt need asio drivers, apparently it has its own. asio is for windows.

so im not real sure then what else to do, or even who to ask.

So you had never seen this problem before? I would look at new hardware and software first. If the problem did not pop until after your RAM installation I would try removing it to verify.

I removed the cheap 3x1GB sticks from my PC and left the 3x2GB sticks from Geil I had purchased just because of little hangs here and there.

hey Cptn,
the sticks i bought are supposed to be ridgy digde, 2 gig on each stick.
Do you mean remove and reinstall? or remove and put in the old ones and see?
could do both eh i guess.
I cant remember if this happened after i did a C4 update or before though.
******* Cubase updates!!
Ive had a cople that were dodgey so far.

ya know i posted this question at the cubase site, and theyve taken the thread away, cant find it anywhere and it definatly went on there because i read thru it after the fact.

That site really ****s me, you go there, ask a question either no one "ever" answers it, or like in ths case, they take the ******* thread away.
****heads!
in fact there are alot of questions just sitting there "unanswered."

So anyway, Capen, i tried the removal etc of ram will see how she goes. Thankyou for the suggestion and general interest.

Thats the good thing about this site, people answer your questions. funny that, being a forum and all.
Just one reason why this site rocks and so many other just suck.

Im just dark because it took me a while to type the cubase question.

still having the same issues, just one more question i may have already asked.

if i have 4 gig ram and im using EZrummer and BFD2 in a song with multiple tracks, would the computer be struggling at 256 buffers setting while doing vox over it (using the cubase monitoring with reverb as a send?)

im just not sure what to expect in this case performance wise.

Not sure but it could still be MIDI that is causing the problem. What if you delete one of the drum tracks entirely? I'm thinking some sort of conflict with the MIDI channels.

its doing it on another project to. this one has only EZdrummer on it.
you would think with 4 gig ram it shouldnt do it at all.

if i wanted to do an update of my asio driver where would be the best place to it?
it shouldnt cost me anything though eh?

i just sent an email to my distributor for an answer.

its just ferking bulltwang. you'd think Cubase.net, being a dedicated Cubase site would at least reply to my post.

anyway, i guess i will see what happens.

if i wanted to reinstall the "last" update of spewbase i was using, can i just click on it and it will reinstall over the latest one im currently using?

It should, or ask if you want to repair the existing install.

is updating the firmware and updating the drivers the same thing here?

No, firmware updates the actual chip on the device itself where the drivers tell the computer how to use your hardware.
