I've recently upgraded from Sonar 4 to Sonar 8 and I'm having problems with the loop explorer.
I used to be able to call up the loop explorer and preview drum loops before inserting them into my projects.
When I use it now, I can see all of my loop folders but none of the wav files themselves show up in the explorer view for me to preview.
I can still drag and drop the loops from Windows explorer into my Cakewalk projects and the loops themselves work fine as groove clips like they always have. Not being able to preview them before dropping them into the project however is driving me nuts.
I'm not having any luck with the Sonar help files and Google isn't so quick with the rescue this time around, anyone here seen this before?
I'm sure there is something very obvious I'm overlooking.

Apr 18, 2009 06:23 pm I don't have any trouble seeing my wav files in there at all.
I'll look a bit later to see if i can find a switch or something that might change the way it views the files.
It might have happened onn the upgrade from 4 to 8. I upgrade at each new release so I'm sure everything follows when it transfers settings from one version to the next on install. And maybe something didn't carry over from 4 to 8 to do with the loop explorer settings.
Have you looked in the manual yet or hit up Cakewalk tech support or their faq for this yet?

Apr 19, 2009 12:56 pm Hi Noize, thanks for the response.
I have looked through the reference manual and throughout Cakewalk's forums and website, I guess the next step is an email.
This started happening in both versions of Sonar after I first installed 8. I did uninstall both versions since then, figuring I'd reinstall 8 clean and see if that helped but it didn't.
I've been previewing my wav loops with media player, it's a workable solution for now, but a pain in the butt.

Apr 19, 2009 04:32 pm OK, I tried opening all different folders and such and can't get it to not open or view wav files.
How do you have the view set, Icons, Details or List?
I got it to work in all views. One thing for me is I don't have my stuff in default folders on the C driver though. It is all on separate dedicated drives.
I suppose it could still relate to the update from 4 to 8, but I really can't say.
I seem to be able to get at all my audio and midi files in there without any trouble. I can't break it and duplicate the problem you are having.
