Audio but no MIDI

I am using Sonar 2 XL for recording with a DSP24 value sound card, i have managed to set up the prefences so that i can hear audio wav files but cant hear any midi sound such as the midi tutorials ive tried just about everything, can someone point me in the right direction???(i do not wish to use any midi devices to record, i just want to able to hear it)

do you have the MIDI data mapped to a specific MIDI device so it knows which unit to play the sound out of?

im not sure i know what you mean. in sonar in the midi devices option i have the input and output both set to ADSP24 MIDI1 device?? is that what you mean?

The midi1 device is actually the midi in and out port. You should have a choice that is referanced as a synth or wavetable S/W synth in the options/midi devices tab. It could very well be named something else, but they usually refer to is as a synth.

the only other option ihave in options -> midi devices is Microsoft MIDI Mapper? is there something that i am missing or perhaphs havent installed? this is really stumping me??

Then I would say, if your card is supposed to have an onboard Gm synth, it did not get installed with the drivers. Because they should show up as a choice. I use an SB card for GM sound sets, and it has 4 choices of synths. XP does have a GM sound synth that also shows up as a choice in Sonar for me Microsoft GS Wavetable software synth is how it is listed in mine.
