Is there a disk defrag and/or scandisk equiv for Macs?

Just checking to see if there is any periodic maintenance I should be doing on my Mac - similar to how you would delete temporary internet files, run scand disk and disk defragmenter every so often on a PC. Thanks.

From what I understand about Mac. Defrag isn't needed. They already file accordingly... Not just throw **** wherever. I could be wrong though.

I think the auto-defrag properties of HFS+ require that the file be less than 20MB ... NTFS is probably similar...

I just defragged a NTFS 160 GB drive the other day that was 48% fragmented. It was all small files, way smaller than 20 MB. So I'm not sure that NTFS does any sort of smart filing. Or at least I don't have it enabled on this disk. It took forever too, like 8 hours! I don't think I've ever had that severe of fragmentation on a drive before.

When I got to the job I am currently in, none of the servers were ever defragged...I use jkDefrag myself and I put it on the servers over a holiday weekend.

Our file repository share didn't even finish defragging over a 3 day weekend...it was a mess...once I defragged the servers it was amazing how much quicker things were...

I now have certain drives scheduled to defrag every weekend...

Vista, autodefrag every morning at 12am. Takes little to no time as fragmentation never gets out of hand and therefore reduces long amounts of strain on my HDD.
