Recreate sound from YouTube video

Want to record my voice on karaoke MP3 files (Frank Sinatra).

I have this YouTube video as a role model:

He has created/mixed a deep echo like effect - how do you do that?

I have Cool Edit 2000 (oops this is a bit old) for sound and Camtasia for video.

Please advice me on what software I should use and how to create this effect.
Thanks!

Try compression and reverb. The echo sound is the reverb, you may not need the compression, but I think his voice is compressed.

There are reverb effects that come with Cool Edit. You'll have to play around with them, to get the exact sound that you want.

not hijack this thread but it should provide us both with some related info.

with reverb, how do i get a decent "sized" reverb without the big tail at the end? i mucked around with the length but then that changes the amount/size which i wanna keep the same.
it fairly big, i just want it to end quicker so its more hidden.

Is that diffussion or somethin else?

sunshine, as coolo stated it is simply reverb. A medium size room type from the sound of it. And yes, he was using some compression as well.

Deon, what reverb plug are you using?

oh Noize man, ive got like a 100 different choices and a million questions for them.

but im using a high freq verb for the vox which is at about .70 and with pre delay on 7.
But the main one is the drums, which
im using a few verbs on.
a short, med, and hall on different drums.
got that idea from a tutorial for SOS.
its not too bad so far but this song requires a failry big verb sound without all the messy tail.

should i start another thread?

Well the decay should take care of the tail. Just shorten that up and it should be good to go.

You may also have a regen knob and that would do it as well depending on the way the verb is set up.

well i have "size", "diffussion" and "width."
apart from verb time and pre delay)

call me stupid but i never noticed the "size" knob before and i cant believe it.

would deacy be "size" in this case?

i also have an envelope section with "amount", "attack" and "release" knobs. ("roomworks" in cubase 4)

Decay, release would be the same. Size is the room size or reverb size.

FWIW, the Sinatra sound is not all about electronics. There are other factors to consider.

Well he got a nice tone using electronics, but I gotta say herb has a point (although mine is not whiskey\wine and stogies :)). Sing in a nice large open room and tada, reverb!!! A light gate to clean up to tails and then some comp to smooth things over.

Not saying we all have access to a room like that, but if you do it would be fun to play with.

Wouldn't "verb time" be the tail length?

Probably.
