ADAT??

Currently I am using an M-audio Projectmix interface with SOnar 6 PE. Yesterday someone gave me an Alesis ADAT machine. I think its the 16bit, the one with the black face...Not a really high end one.

I noticed that my board/interface has a optical in and out for ADAT....

Is there any way to incorporate this into my studio...or am i better off just sticking to SOnar tracks? im not really sure of the quality of the ADAT.

Thanks

Well, although I'm not very well versed in ADAT recorders, if it's only 16 bit, you're definitely better off going with Sonar. Not to mention I'm not sure that you can edit the tracks once they're written to ADAT.

I do know that a lot of studios will write their final mixes to high quality ADAT to send to mastering studios. If the ADAT was better than 16bit, I'd say it's worth it for that, but I suppose not.

I have been in situations where a computer crashes or something and having a backup recording device is always a plus, though I'm not sure that would be prevalent for your project mix. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Yes, it wold be nice to have as a backup device for sure. You can actually slave it into the system and run it synced up with Sonar if you like. But if you have a Project mix going you really don't need the extra tracks on ADAT. And it is only 16 bit as you stated.
