My son and I just finished doing our first-ever gig together. We played a few songs for an "Empty Bowls" benefit...like an awareness fundraiser for starvation, or something.
Anyway, I'm the one in the Badgers cap!:
Anybody else ever gigged with their kid?

Congrats on the first gig with the kid for sure. I'm jealous for sure. I bet it was fun for sure. What did you guys play as far as tunes go?
Ray will be my last hope. I'm hoping the guitar lessons pan out and he gets into it fully. Time will tell.
We are going to start having live practice for him though in here. I'm moving the Valve Jr. into the studio tomorrow so we can star having a plugged in practice a couple nights or days a week. I'm thinking that will stoke him up.

Mar 07, 2009 10:50 pm That's great Jim! I've never gigged with my son, but we have played guitar guitar together at the house, and worked on a couple songs together, it was alot of fun and I really am proud of how well he's learned to play. My youngest son has my acoustic and I'm hoping he will get into playing as well.

Mar 08, 2009 07:55 am Yeah...it was fun. He's actually a very good singer, but I couldn't get him to do it in public. We played:
"You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" (Dylan)
"Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" (CCR)
"Heart of Gold" (Neil Young)
"Wish You Were Here" (Pink Floyd)
"Mr. Tambourine Man" (Dylan)
He perfectly picked out the leads on "Wish You Were Here" and I blew the harmonica on the rest. (If you look very carefully at the picture you can see the rack around my neck.)
It was a lot of fun, and very rewarding. He's my youngest son, and has always been musical. The two older boys have shown interest, but not like James. He works at it...has a knack for it. Hopefully we'll get to do it again soon!

Mar 08, 2009 08:19 pm Cool tunes to play for sure. It would have been cool to get him to sing harmony on Mr.Tambourine Man though. Maybe next time.
