Mar 26, 2003 04:40 pm If you're looking for premade loops, check out the stuff from PowerFX www.powerfx.com/
As for Fruity Loops being difficult to use, well, it does take a little time if you're not used to working with drum machines and/or sequencers, but it is pretty intuitive. I would strongly suggest you spend some time getting to know it. Once you get comfortable, you can produce excellent results from it.
Mar 26, 2003 05:42 pm not being a drummer i found it hard to program drums at first. after about a yaer of twidlin around with it it just started to hit me. now i'm getting better every time i try. eventually you'll more than likely decide you don't want to use other people's beats as it's distracts from your own creative energy (or not), so you might benefit from just going ahead and diving into the programming thing. nowadays i tap on everything, always banging on something, whether it's the steering wheel or the kitchen table. i've been beatboxing with my mouth for a couple months and it's all starting to make sense. i'm beginning to understand what drums are all about. but whatever you wnat to do. if loops are your thing, go with it.
oh yeah, and i hear alot of good stuff about those PowerFX guys
Mar 26, 2003 07:10 pm Thanks guys I have looked at power fx and the loops just dont seem to fit my type of music, it sounds techo from the sound samples.
Mar 26, 2003 07:17 pm I take that back I just saw the 2raw extreme rock, funk, rage, it looks pretty cool.
Mar 26, 2003 08:07 pm extremerockfunkrage is the PowerFX CD that I have gotten the most use out of of all them. Those are some jammin loops.

Mar 26, 2003 09:28 pm I will second what dB said. We both own that one, and I have yanked many beats and or loops of of it. PowerFx is one of the best for the money as far as Im concerned.
Apr 08, 2003 05:45 pm has anyone used mick fleetwoods total drumming?
Apr 08, 2003 06:25 pm Are we not able to buy CDs from PowerFX through the portal? All I can get to is the Sample Packs and individual samples. Maybe I'm just blind!
Apr 08, 2003 06:40 pm No, full CD's are not "portalable" yet, I am currently discussing that with them. Thanks for reminding me, I will drop them another email RIGHT NOW.
In the mean time, feel free to go right to www.powerfx.com and buy them straight up from them, then make darn sure you tell them you came from here :-)

Apr 08, 2003 07:20 pm yes, I personally agree with Jamie's comment on drum programming. Meaning, I prefer not to use someone elses premade loops. I guess my main thing is that I'd be really concerned if I ended up with the same loop as someone else. So, best way around that is make my own.
Individual drum samples are a different story. Get some good ones, and they will take you far.
Apr 08, 2003 08:45 pm Loops are absolutely great for getting into a groove. Often times I will start with a preamde loop, start jammin in and around it, record some tracks, and by the end of the song there is not atrace of the original loop in there, but it did get the groove going.

Apr 08, 2003 09:31 pm Yep, nothing like a loop or two to get things going. And coolo, you do have a way with programing a good groove, I will say that about you. I too prefer to create my own, but there are times everyone gets stuck. And the loops really are great for that. Besides, when I get done chopping em up, you would not know them anyway.
May 07, 2003 10:14 pm when i save a loop in powerfx I donty know where to go to see my saved loops. Oh and i agree making my own beats would sound better but fruity loops looks scary
May 08, 2003 01:08 am Fruity is the easiest step sequencer you'll ever use. It's so intuitive and ergonometric or whatever. It just makes sense. Give it a try.
If you're looking for a file on a windows system, it helps to know at least part of the filename. Let windows search for a string that you know is in the filename and you'll find your file.
May 08, 2003 06:20 am i like the 160db and 260db series of loops (you can find them at the propellorheads site, they've got lots of breaks.
i like to use loops nto get a groove, but i nearly always change them a bit to fit, by slicing the sample up and messing around with the kicks, hats etc. to make a slightly new beat. then if making jungle or dnb, i usually use these loops as the background loop, with a programmed pattern over the top to give punch, power and individuality. it also makes breakdowns and builds easier too.
one day i'll post my crap up here for you all to see....maybe!!
