Hello my I’m a live sound engineer for my church.
I have experience in live sound for over ten years, however my church is looking to me to start recording our gospel type choir.
I’ve been reaching out to the recording community for any help possible. I’ve tried several people in the U.S but I can’t seem to get anyone to respond.

I’m just looking for someone to donate a few minutes of their time to get me pointed in the right direction.
I’m going to be purchasing a Mac pro desktop, a 16 channel audio interface, and logic pro 8 software.

We have done several CDs through local studios. To me the sound has been let’s just put it this way “You get what you pay for”.
If you are willing to answer a few questions please feel free to contact me at this email address.
I’m reaching out for a little professional courtesy from the recording aspect of the industry

You've come to the right place. I'm sure that you'll get several replies to your question in the next few days. Things are a little slow here on the weekends but during the week several of us burn some company time here :)

Just check back to this thread, no need to start an email exchange unless you want the privacy.

First off, a few questions to help us hone in on what you require/want:

- what's your budget?
- what are your expectations for the final product? Demos? Sell them for profit? Go all obsessive-compulsive?
- what all instruments are you planning on recording?
- How many voices are in your choir?

The basic components to shop for are software, an interface that can take your desired number of simultaneous inputs, a preamp for each of those inputs (if your interface doesn't include them), and a pair of studio monitors. It looks like you've already scoped most of that out. Then factor in the requisite cables, mic stands, and other random accessories that you'll find yourself needing. There's an endless money pit of stuff you COULD get, but that should cover the basics.

There are a ton of options for each of these components, from cheap to world-class. Once we know more about what you're after, we can give more accurate advice.
