Hi,
I am brand new to this business as anyone can be.
I want to produce hip hop material.
I am already very good at producing beats and background music in Fruity Loops and have several beats ready.
I want to start recording in my room.
I just want to know what equipment to buy, importantly microphone and recorder, and how I should start off.
I'm also on an extremely tight budget.
So I want to get the most bang for the buck.
If there is a guide or another forum post, to this, I would also appreciate if you could link me.

Feb 26, 2009 10:11 am That's quite a bag of questions, to which it's almost impossible to give a usable answer.
microphones: dynamic, condensor, ribbon
100 - 5000$
preamps: cheesy, small, and rough performance, up to high end stuff
30$ - 5000$
recorders: standalone, tape =), handheld, computer (mac, PC), PC w/ Hardware (PT), etc.
300$ - (you don't wanna know)
programs for recording: various,
free - 2000$ (approx)
plugins: various
free - 1000s $ (various)
treatment for room: none (boxy, nodes, etc) to lots: better but still iffy.
free - 1000s $ (various)
--------------------------------------
So you see, there's lots of variables that will affect these things directly, and i'm not about to list off every iteration of possibilities.
I guess if you find a budget first, some parts can be identified.
cheap: 300 - 500$
fair: 500 - 1000$
pretty decent: 1000 - 2500$
Very nice: 2500+
then there's nashville professional, but I won't try to guess at what each place might have.
(of course, these are all my opinions, and could be off by a bunch).
hth, ymmv, imho, etc.
