EMU 0404 - cubase studio 4 recording issues

Hi there,

Hope you can help.

I am having issues with the mixing of tracks on cubase using the emu 0404.

Although the tracks mixdown correctly there are gaps in the audio. I was wondering if this is to do with mixing down at 24bit rather than 16bit?

If not this then, is it a known problem for the EMU 0404 or could it be the PC Im using with is a P4.

Any asistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

What exactly do you mean by gaps in the audio? Do you mean while it is mixing down, or in the final end stereo mix?

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

It is in the final mix.

So the gaps are not present when you are playing back the mix, only when it is mixing down?

That sounds like a PC issue that it is having trouble keeping enough system resources to make the mixdown. That is the usual case when that happens, not the fault of the 0404 but somewhere between Cubase and the PC system resources it uses.

Can you give us the spec of the PC. CPU size, amount of Ram and any other programs that would be running in the background while you are trying to do the mixdown?

Hi,

I am using a Dell Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, with 2.5 gig of Ramm.

When mixing down I have Cubase open and some of the effects across the individual tracks. The track I'm having problems with uses 9 effects.

Thanks for your help.

Do you have any anti-virus program that might be running in the background?

Are you running Vista or XP?

Also, does it drop out while simply playing back, or just when doing the mixdown?

Hi,

I am running XP, no antivirus in the background.

The audio does playback normally. The problem only occurs on mixdown.

Thanks

Have you tried applying the effects directly to see if it happens then? If you are running the effects live that may be causing the issue.

I would try making a copy of the project by simply doing a save as and add a number to the tittle to make it just a bit different so it doesn't overwrite the original file. Then apply the effects offline, or destructively and try a mix down then.

While the PC appears to be more then capable there is something happening that is draining the resource's while it is mixing down. One thing odd is it does not happen during normal playback, only during mix down.

Do you have anything like a wireless network card running on it at the same time? I'm just hitting things that have appeared in the past that caused issues like this or similar.
