Gradual Lag in Sonar 7 (and 4)

Hi, recently I have begun recording again and I noticed that after 4 or 5 minutes into a single take, the audio starts to lag.

I know I am playing in perfect sync with other tracks but when I go to the playback I will hear the track not matching the beat with other tracks.

I am using an old M-Audio Quattro and Art Studio V3 (which i have always used). Output Playback Master is SB Audigy 2 ZS 9000. I am recording a direct line from my Amp into Preamp into Quattro to PC.

Any help appreciated!

By the way, I have Sonar 4 and Sonar 7, so either there is a preference that needs to change or its maybe the Maudio and/or drivers?

Using the sound blaster is causing the latency in your recording. I dont know sonar at all but im sure you can set the quattro to output instead of the SB. I'm sure someone around can tell you how to do that in sonar.

I'll give that a whirl. I've never really had this problem in the past. I do a lot of guitar videos on youtube and ill record the audio on my PC (rather than camcorder mic) and I do it in one take. But its not possible now.

Maybe time to reformat pc?

By the way, Im not talking about live monitoring of my guitar... im talking about playback.

Just tried Quattro output, as I suspected, its not that.

i had the same problem when i first had my toneport UX2 and still used my SB to output audacity (so i thought it might help) but just from the little experience i have i've noticed the gamer sound cards (like the SB) can cause latency issues.

Matt, what are the specs of your PC? That will help try and figure this out.

But yes, part of the problem is that you should not use 2 different un-matched sound cards. The internal clocks will be slightly off and that will cause the drift you are getting.

Switching now might not fix the already recorded issue though so try a fresh take and see what happens.

Oh ya, by the way. Are you using the ASIO drivers for the M-Audio unit? That is maybe the problem as well. You need to use the ASIO drivers and not the MME default drivers.
