I've just had a check on the free space on my hard drive (its the first time i've done this for ages) and I have only got 10GB left on a 160GB drive. Most of the space seems to be taken up with recording files...many of which are takes that havent been used in any compositions.....I use Cubase SX3 and it seems to save eveything.....is there a way of deleating all the unused files...or do I have to go and delete them all manually!?!

I don't know Cubase, so I can't address it specifically, but I can be a strong advocate for secondary hard drives.

I would hope Cubase would have some sort of cleanup feature.

sometimes there's an 'archive format' for saving files which bundle all of the files associated to a project into a single file which is easy to archive.

Reaper has a feature, which removes all remaining files that are in the project directory, but aren't associated with the project.

Mostly, unused takes, etc.

Hopefully cubase has some sort of similar feature.

Try looking for a "temp" folder inside the Cubase folder.

The fastest way to get rid of unused audio files in a project is to use the "Save project to a new folder" function under the File menu. After selecting a new location to save the project you'll get a dialog that gives you a couple of options. One is "Remove Unused Files. Check this option and then save the project. The copy of the project will have just those wav files which are actually used in a track. For a more manual approach you can open the pool, right click on the audio folder and select "Remove unused media". Select "Move it to the pool trash" and then empty the trash.

The save project to new folder is the safest way to do it by the way. You can possibly delete a used file the other way.
