hey folks, just tried to open the cubase project ive been working on lately and when i opened it there was a box listing a load of missing audio files that were being used in the track (all but about two or three of em seem to be missing). the project's stems and all the other gubbins is there just no sound which is evident as the stems are blank and do not contain a waveform.
anyone know how to retrieve these files as the tune is close to 20mins long and I really dont want to have to re record it again.
Using a PC on XP with cubase sx3
as usual, any help would be pure gold, cheers

Jan 10, 2009 07:15 pm can you get cubase to search for the missing files? in that window that tells ya it has missing files there are options for search.,
apart from that i know there are back ups somewhere but i cant rmemeber. in an audio file in windows or somewhere like that. just have a suss.
only thing is though which ones they are when you do find the list.
so they arent in the "pool" in cubase?
if they are and you cant use them then at least you can see what the file names are.
sure someone else here will know how to track em outside of cubase.

Jan 12, 2009 03:17 pm How did the folder/files get to the recycle bin? That would be the answer right there.
Anyway, I'll assume you are recording to the C drive then and using the default folders and such.
You may stand a small, very small chance of recovering these by going to your my recent documents folder which will keep a history of files recently opened or moved.
It is possible you will find them in there, possible that is.
My suggestion to avoid this is to have a secondary drive for recording audio only.
And a BACK UP is the best way to avoid this type of thing.
My theory is, if I don't have 3 copies of a file I don't have it at all.
