Well, I haven't changed anything, but, after server changes it seems this problem exists for some for a few days, can't say why, but it seems to.

Now, excuse me while I head to Papa Murphy's take n' bake pizza.

Hey dB. I'm not having a log out problem. I'm having a half of the thread problem.

I noticed this a couple of times. You look at a thread, and a few days later, you see post that you didn't before.

Like in the Eagles thread. I didn't see Tadpui's post, or your reply until today.

This has happened a few times. I have been using Firefox to visit the site with.

Any Ideas on that? Could it be a memory issue with my computer? Being that I stay logged in for a while when I'm here?

no idea what that's all about...again, nothing has changed on here, and all the thread generating code is server side, not client...soooooooo...I dunno.

And he like some of us is running Firefox now. Just sayin.

Oddly enough though it has not happened to me here it has at a couple places like the 61, dropping my cookie when I know its on my system.

Could be something in recent updates with both IE and FF. Don't really know though.

i wasnt gonna say anymore on it but i noticed forty said he was still getting logged out in another thread

me too, when i go to sign in it does some weird stuff too, like it chooses from the index whatever it wants, usually the same thing, but i cant stop it sometimes i gotta try 3 or 4 times.
also, whether i check the box or not i usually get logged out after about an hour.

not getting this anywhere else so dunno.
i know dB you've said there's no problem on your end, but any suggestions what i can checkout on my end to figure out what it is. i just did another IE update if thats any help.

Logins are done server side, only storing cookies client side, so the only thing I can think of would be your cookies security settings.

Of course, I never recommend using IE either.

I haven't had any problem, myself, so I really can't fix what I can't see...

reset your password

your email seems to be ccmj5 [at] aol [dot] com according to your public profile.

Good point though, I don't show the email, only a link to change it...I'll put that on the ol' to-do list.

After years of never having this problem, I've all of a sudden got a bad case of the log-offies. But its not just HRC (well, HRC is the last hold-out after it had been happening with every site I log into).

I cleared my cache, temp files, and cookies last week to deal with a different problem. Ever since then I can't stay logged in to HRC. I use IE7 and I can't find any place to explicitly allow/disallow the use of cookies. It's all tied in with the privacy level but I can't find a way to make sure that I don'thave cookies disabled or anything.

Any ideas? What do you all do when you get stricken with logoffitis?

I have to log into HRC every time I reopen Firefox, but no problems in IE7. FF is giving me a lot of other problems lately too. I may just go back to IE7 full time. Its rendering has always looked much better anyway.

I'm sure it is on my side. Its just that for some reason HRC is more stubborn when it comes to recovering from this than other sites. I've gone through the motions of clearing my cache and cookies and the other sites I frequent are back to normal. HRC is the lone holdout that hasn't recovered. Strange that I'd never had this issue before, then it happened right after I cleared my cache and cookies.

For some reason, I'm hungry for cookies now...

I have that same problem now Deon! It gets caught in some loop and sends me back to the main page before I get a chance to log in.

So weird that this all started happening all of a sudden after I cleared all my cache & temp files. I've been coming here for years with no issues.

This problem even survived an upgrade from IE6 to IE7. And HRC is still the only site I'm having troubles with. All of the other sites I frequent got over the logout issues after a few tries.

FF 3.0.8

IE 7.0.5.xxxx

Could this be ISP related somehow?

Administrator

Mar 31, 2009 09:39 pm

hmmmm, ISP related, I doubt it, possible maybe, but usually issues like this are client or server. Usually client, because, well, users are "stupidy" (as my kid would say)

No, I am not looking at anyone in particular. :-)

Login cookies are stored on the client, the cookies are parsed on the server in PHP...so, eh, I dunno, without being able to duplicate it, it's tough...

I agree it has got to be client side, otherwise it would certainly be a lot more wide spread.

I wonder if its possible an anti-virus or other scanner/cleaner app might do it.

I have had a strange phenom lately with my bank and t61 not remembering me. I was blaming C-Cleaner at first but have the cookies cleaning for FF turned of. Only IE gets cookies cleaned out.

But even with it all off it was still not remembering me. It turns out AVG was quarantining those two specific cookies.

So I suppose it might be something along those lines.

If it is AVG doing it you will see the cookie in the virus vault. I'm guessing that since I run AVG and am not having issues here then it probably is not the cause of the HRC thing.

Like I said, it was only those two URL's that had it happen.

I'm more than willing to sit down and see if we can get to the bottom of this since I can recreate the problem on all of my systems.

Or if you want my login info, you can login as me and see if it recreates for you.

It happens to me every once in a while, although this is the only site that does it.

I wonder what the heck it is that this site has against my account?

Is there a way I can reset my account to see if its something embedded in my account info that's causing this to happen? I've cleared cache and cookies so it's not stored data. It happens on more than 1 machine so its not just my one system. The only common factor I can think of is my account info stored on the server.

Is there a way to retrieve my account info either in SQL or a control panel app and browse through it?

This is really irritating since I can't seem to fix it myself. I wouldn't mind if it were an intermittent problem on a site I rarely visited, but this happens every day on the site I visit the most!

I had it start happening to me as well. But I *might* have found a fix, I updated the flashplayer (to the 10....87 version, was .36) and it appears to be staying logged in again, (don't ask me what the flashplayer has to do with it LOL). I'll know for sure if it's still logged in tomorrow.

I'll try it when I get home tonight. Mine stayed logged in till I rebooted after updating flash, which was quite a bit longer than it did before. Definitley seems to be a problem with the cookie expiring for some reason, at least on mine.

That means I had to specifically say if any variable being passed was a GET or POST variable...(meaning querystring or form field, basically) and the "remember me" checkbox wasn't specified so it always defaulted to the temp login.

I can not believe I didn't see that weeks/months ago...it was a real "Doh!" moment.

I am guessing some of us still had cookies from before the move that were simply accessed and refreshed often enough to never suffer the fate...and that many don't use "remember me".

That would explain why the new surfbox never suffered the same fate. I used the import settings and programs app built into windows and it brought everything, including the cookies obviously.

I never log out either, simply close the browser and re-open it the next day and am still logged in. It likes me I guess.

I love those "aha!" debugging moments. Actually, that's where I make most of my living. Pouring through forgotten, dusty corners of code that noboby has touched in ages and finding that one little gotcha encoded a few layers deep that only happens when conditions a, b, and z all coincide.

Have a beer, you deserve it**!

Thanks forty, but actually, it was more disappointing than satisfying, I should have caught that a long time ago.

It took me about a week to get back in and get reset. I'm glad to see this thread. I couldn't even get my info emailed to me for sign in the first few times I tried.

im having issues still. ihave this white strip across the top of the page with all the choices "edit your profile, customize your profile etc,etc going horizontally across the page and covering the first post on each page.

when i go to someones profile all the options arent there because the strip is covering them all. its always been like this but dint think it would be a problem.

What browser and version are you using? And on PC or Mac?

when i load a thread now, for about one second the normal menu bar (home, tips, community, etc) becomes a block that covers the first two inches of the page. something like that. but it vanishes a second later. a little odd but no inconvenience.

forty, you are just seeing the menu loading, then rendering as the menu bar as the javascript executes, I see that block too. Deon, no clue what you are seeing, I can't duplicate that at all.

i thought it mightve been something in settings in "control panel" there at the bottom, the "accessibilty" tab, i have everything unchecked. apart from that, no clue.

it is wierd that mine is like this, obviously its something on this end, but what?

i wanted to listen to some's music here but because of the issue i cant get to any of the options to do so.

could only happen to me though eh.
im jinxed.

In IE8 options settings there is a check box to run in compatibility mode. Check that and all should be good.
