OK, here in Philly they are saying that the Vikings are having to beg your fans to buy tickets?
Come on now! The Eagles suck just as bad, but if the game was here, we would have sold out the night they went on sale.
Whats the matter? Losing faith all together now? Just don't the heart to face it? Do you need another beer to drown your sorrows in? I can get it for if you like?

Jan 02, 2009 11:04 pm Don't make me come out there Rob. :-)
Ya, I dunno. I'm begging to think most of the folks here now are afraid of winter and don't wanna venture out in the cold. That and they simply don't know how to drive in it so they don't go anywhere.
But seeing all the idiots on the road when it does snow shoots that idea in the foot.
I'm not really sure what is up. If I had the time I would be going regardless of whether I think they will win it or blow it.
Jan 02, 2009 11:11 pm Ha! Good! that means that all of the drunken idiots that are headed you way from here, will be stuck in the snow! HA,HA!
That should give your guys a little reprieve out there. If you see a whole bunch of guys stuck in the snow, and in the middle of the road Barbecuing, you know where they are from!

Jan 02, 2009 11:18 pm Ya, and it sounds like it is supposed to dump at least 6 or more inches on our heads tomorrow sometime. So the Philly folks headed this way are in for a treat.
Tell them to bring extra beer and blankets.
Jan 02, 2009 11:20 pm The beer they got covered. The blankets.... Well, you know the old saying. No sense, no feeling!

Jan 02, 2009 11:54 pm Sounds like they'll fit right in.
Jan 03, 2009 07:51 am I grew up in Minnesota during the seventies, when the Purple People Eaters used to dominate the NFC Central. Four Super Bowls. (Okay, they LOST all four, but at least they were there!) And yes, ::shudders:: I was a huge Vikings fan at the time!
Anyway, I can remember almost every home playoff game was pretty much touch-and-go as to whether or not it would sell out so that it could be televised locally. Several times local corporations such as Pillsbury would come in and buy up the remaining tickets and then give them away. (Tickets were a lot cheaper back then!)
I get my TV from the Mpls. stations, so they BETTER sell the tickets and it BETTER be televised!

Jan 03, 2009 06:45 pm I'll be heading for the bar in the snow if it doesn't sell out.
But ya, I attended my share of those home games as well.
Jan 03, 2009 06:59 pm It is a shame. They are going to televise it here. I was trying to think of a way to stream it to you guys. But I don't think that I can do that without going to jail.

Jan 03, 2009 09:38 pm Unless we get a group Skype going I suppose. As long as we are chatting about it as well and drinking some beer I suppose it would then be legal. Sort of anyway.
Jan 03, 2009 10:55 pm Well, if is not televised, I'll run out and get a webcam and mic.
Jan 03, 2009 10:55 pm It is going to be televised, it is under 1000 tickets now so it got picked up.
I will say, while I like going to a game, since they moved to the dome in downtown, it's less fun, no room to tailgate, parking costs money the mafia would be embarrassed to ask for, and getting around sucks...
Now, if it was the good ol' Met stadium it would be more fun, but they needed to tear that down for the stupid ****** mall.
I thought about getting four tickets and taking the family, but it's just too packed in too crappy of an area of town to bring my 7 and 10 year olds in to...the stadium is not in what I would call the best part of Minneapolis.
Jan 03, 2009 10:59 pm Hey dB good to see the avatar back.
Jan 04, 2009 06:54 am what's this? the games aren't televised there if they don't sell out? is that what i just heard?

Jan 04, 2009 12:15 pm Its that way in more then just this state. But ya, that's what you are reading.
And indeed, the Met was the place to be for sure. The dome is on the edge of the industrial sector and is an area with many hiding spots for the less then social butterflies that inhabit the area.
Jan 04, 2009 12:19 pm That's not this state, I believe that's NFL syndication bylaws. It's not total sellout needed, but there is a line drawn in the sand someplace.

Jan 04, 2009 03:25 pm Found this sad little tidbit on Blackout rules for the NFL.
And ya dB has it absolutely right. It ain't the TV stations it is the NFL itself. And from what I saw it is normally based on a complete sellout. Anyway here is the bit I found.
So what exactly are the blackout rules?
The short answer: If a game doesn't sell out within 72 hours of kickoff, there is no local television broadcast. "Local" in this case is defined as anywhere within 75 miles from the stadium. If a station from outside that 75-mile zone has any part of its coverage area crossing over, it gets blacked out too. This is why virtually all of Arizona, for instance, gets blacked out of Cardinals games. If a team comes close to selling out, the NFL can grant a 24-hour extension.
Jan 04, 2009 04:20 pm So, are you able to see the game?
Jan 04, 2009 04:22 pm such as it is, yep.
Jan 04, 2009 04:31 pm Well you got the lead for now.
Jan 04, 2009 04:41 pm i don't know about this law: to my knowledge there has never not been a steeler game broadcast in pittsburgh. they can't all sell out, can they? my entire life i've never not seen a pitt game on in the city.
Jan 04, 2009 04:44 pm Well, your holding us to just field goals.
Jan 04, 2009 04:48 pm Opps! What happened there?
Jan 04, 2009 04:51 pm my friend reports (just now) that the nfl blackout rule can either be adopted by a team or not. since attendance is not a chronic problem in pittsburgh, the team opts to not follow the law. no additional incentive is needed to get people to come to the games. so even on days when attendance is poor, the games are carried.
i'm rooting for minnesota in this game, btw
Jan 04, 2009 05:06 pm Told you not to underestimate the stupidity of the Eagles!

Jan 04, 2009 05:42 pm Well, I left about 45 min ago to do a little repair work at my Mom in Laws and the Vikes were loosing.
OK, the TV just got back on and it looks like we are still loosing. Only by 2 pints but that is enough.
forty, it appears as though the teams do not have a choice in this. It is strictly and NFL and network thing. Teams have not choice.
There does appear to be some variation to the rules depending on how far away you are from the actual home team city though. 75 miles seems to be the norm.
And all tickets must be sold within a 72 hour period. A station can appeal to the NFL for an extension though. I've read a few different bits and this page seems to have a good amount of detail on it. www.cleverdonkey.com/106-...blackout-rules/
But there are a few other conflicting things that don't seem to apply to either the teams or the network, strictly NFL decision's.
Either way the Queens is loosing.
Jan 04, 2009 06:20 pm Oooh, Tough break guys. Got to watch Westbrook!

Jan 04, 2009 06:27 pm IT ain't over till the fat lady sings!
Still got 6 minutes left.
Jan 04, 2009 06:34 pm Sorry guys. But I think the fat lady just came out.
Jan 04, 2009 06:38 pm the fat lady sang a while ago...
Jan 04, 2009 06:42 pm Well, hey. It was a good game. The score was tight for a while there. Both sides played a tight game. The Eagles just didn't suck as much as they usually do.
But, don't worry. We are not going to get pass NY.
Jan 04, 2009 06:52 pm well that sucks.
i haven't seen the giants play in a while, though. for some reason i think philly could beat them.
as for the bylaws, all i know is that you can see steeler games even down in northern west virgina. i don't know how or why, but i've never heard of anyone who wanted to see a pitt game in western pa or northern wv ever having to miss one, ever. maybe it's because those tv stations sit atop hills and within the city limits the game is always broadcast (whatever you said about the 75 miles)

Jan 04, 2009 07:47 pm Either way, Childress needs to go now. Denny would not have given this one away, and he sucked as well.
Good luck to the Eagles then I guess.
Jan 04, 2009 07:54 pm Thanks Noize. We'll see how they do.
Jan 04, 2009 07:56 pm Childress will not go now, they made the playoffs, all that one game did was cement the fact he'll be here next year...
It wasn't given away, the Eagles outplayed us...we lost, fair and square.
If we had Pat Williams and Ray Edwards it would have been another story but then we all have injuries we could say that about I suppose.
Jan 04, 2009 08:20 pm It was a good game all the way around. Although I think all of here in Philly will question the decision to throw the ball deep, when we only need one yard. Still don't understand that one.

Jan 04, 2009 08:30 pm Either way, you got the win. That is what counts in the end.
And ya, I agree that Childress will keep his job for at least another year.
Jan 05, 2009 01:04 am I wish we had American football up here. Can you guys please buy our teams and incorporate them into the NFL (real football league)?
Jan 05, 2009 10:19 am Well, we would, but I don't think that we want to incorporate a tea break in the middle of the game.
It's just a joke. I'm just kidding on that.
God, I feel like Tallchap on this one.

Where do you live, Detroit? ;-)

Baddabing!
All in all, not a bad game, it proved once and for all Zygi better buck up and get a QB...Jackson is a great backup, Frerrotte, while I like the guy, is getting old for the NFL...we need a leader behind the center.
