Done in a fantastic untreated room and recorded on my crappy Line6 pre's ;)

This is a song we are using to tryout female vox for my new side project, pass out some copies and hear what they come back with.

All the tones came through pretty clear but I am sure the mix could use a little work and I have listened too much to do any good.

Any and all suggestions will at least be considered. I want this to shine before I hand it out.

Song is here...

p.s. The solo is a filler, I had a good one and then tried to use a Wah, Wah is no good for this song imo. Song name is temp also :)

Sounds pretty dang good to me Cpt. From a personal stand point I like a snare that rings a bit more, but as I say that's just personal taste. I think what you have will be a good mix for the vocalist to work with. I think once the vox are in you might want to do some lead fills and stuff, but thats about the only thing I'd suggest.

Right on OD, the snare issue was a poorly chosen head. I agree with you though, and on that note, stay away from the reverse dot snare from Evans.

It has a metal ring and also a metal dot in the middle which I thought would provide a super crack\ring to it. Well, the crack comes through well enough, but the dot pretty much deadens it. Next time I'll just stick with what I know.

I could drumagog a different snare, but that would take away my "no drumagog" braggin rights :)

Alas, if the side band comes together how I want, we will probably re-record everything when we get more songs so they all jive together, then I can use my neighbors snare which sounds quite fantastic :)

I agree, the snare could use some more length, but I also think it's too prominent.

I do like the sound of it though, and don't think it needs to change, just down a bit.

Everything else sounds very nice.

I don't mind the wah sound on the solo either. I luv the thick buttery overdrive solo kinda thing.

Also agreed, I just listened after even a 1 day break and that snare is screaming at me :) Although, I think it definitely needs some verb also, a tad o verb and a ~1db cut might sit it in nicely.

On the solo, I think it's the fact that I couldn't really "use" the wah to it's full extent is what bugs me. It's old and super loose (that's what she said) and is really easy to click on\off. That kept me from really digging into it in fear of switching it during the solo. I have a morley I will try next (like the dunlop better tonewise) which is instant on\off when stomped. Might make me like it better.

Thanks for the listen guys, keep the suggestions coming, so far they are spot on.

well, it's tasty without being a 'wah' type solo. it can often be over done (spelled: kirk hammit)

I wouldn't shoot for much more, unless it comes out nice, of course =).

Oops. I knew I was supposed to listen to something else today. I'll get it in just a bit.

No hurry, I can wait for good feedback :)

I'm hoping Massive Master will give it a listen also, a true blue even if it hurts review.

Hey, that's everything I like right there. I was thinking the snare was a little in your face at first but that settled in when everything else came in. Nice!

i like the snare sound also, maybe just turn it down a bit.

there is a tone in the kick round the mid area that's not my cup o tea though.

it seems to sit better when the rest of the band comes in but in the quiet bits it sticks out more.
just my opinion though.

other that to me, it sounds really good, like you were saying about the room sound, its great.

I tune down down...

Between your bass drum and your bass guitar, your low mids are a little muddy. And I'd check the bleed of your snare into your bass drum mic. Your snare might have some phase issue. Also, if your toms are gated, I'd let'em ring a little more. And bring them guitar geetars up in the chorus! Haha. But, I'm just a guitar guy. :P

Good tooon though! Got some good groove in there. :) Hope this helps.

I'm liking the snare sound myself kinda. But as you suggested, maybe a tad of verb to give it a little more length would work out. I really liked the guitar sounds as well, and the not so heavy and wide wah sound really worked on this. Just a tiny hint of getting at the higher toned growl really worked. I think it sounds great as is and wouldn't want to hear the wah go much farther then you pushed it.

But on the other hand. I happen to have a 69 Cry Baby modded to the same spec Clapton used with Cream and beyond. I'd ship it out for you to try, if your into that kind of Vintage sound. It might be a bit edgy though compared to what you were getting. It really pushes when its closed fully.

But ya, I'm really liking it at the moment. Not a lot I can think of that would need any tweaking to much. Get more detail once the vox are added.
