funny and frustrating pro tools problem

so i'm using protools now, because my lexicon omega broke (imagine that), and i got hooked up with an mbox2 pro for free (yeah, thats right, free)

anywho, when i play back what i record i often get an error message that tells me to increase the h/w buffer size. fair enough, i think, so i increase it. here's the problem: after i do that, i get a different error telling me to reduce the h/w buffer size.

now im a noob at this whole recording and especially so with protools...but what gives? anybody had this problem or know what i need to do to fix it? also, i cant bounce to mp3 cuz it says demo version might be expired, but i dont have a demo version.

any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I'll start with the mp3 thing.

Yes, you do have a demo version, of the mp3 converter. PT does not come with much for free. If you want to export to mp3 you will have to spend about $150 or more for the pluggin from Digidesign to do that.

On the buffer size. A good starting point will be either 128 or 256. That is usually the best for stopping problems.

What size is your CPU and how much RAM do you have in the PC? This might help find you a good setting that will not choke the system out.

hate to be the barer of bad news.. but i had this problem with a HP desktop about a year ago. after hours and hours of trouble shooting/posting on forums/and calling PT support, i could not get mine to play back. THe only answer i got from anybody was "WEll, that specific PC has not been tested or verified to run PT, so theres your problem". my PC had more then enough power to run the program (3.4ghz P4, 4gbram) but they said it hadnt been tested, so they said its probably not compatable.

I ended up just ditching my digi002 for a Motu 8pre and Sonar 5. same computer and Sonar works flawlessly.

Melty, he never came back for his answer. Or he figured it out and just never said so.

I tune down down...

lol sorry for not responding sooner. ever since i've started this "hobby" i've spent so much time trying to get crap to work so i can record that i forget what i really enjoy doing: making music. i've been writing my *** off and i just decided recently to just save up my money till i can put everything on my comp on removeable harddrives, then im gonna copy my cousins set-up exactly, cuz his **** works flawless.
